My concern with Hostgator

Ive heard some people complain that they've had their Hostgator account suspended after just one complaint/DMCA notice. I heard one guy on here complain that he got suspended after just customer complained of some paypal despite or what not. Im not talkin about hosting a warez/porn site on hostgator. You can go somewhere else for that. But what if you have something like a news site, and link to videos or images not really yours and someone complains or sends a DMCA notice to them, thats what i'm concerned about with hostgator. I'm thinking of going back to hostgator for my grayhat/white sites but this is what concerns me. Or am i wrong? I kind of want to go back to hostgator because they do have great support

I've had Hostagtor reseller account since 2008 ( glory adsense days ) I haven't really had much problems with it. But they are pretty strict about some scripts especially server sucking ones..:D

whats your monthly bandwidth usage, how much disk space have you used? i dont mean autoblogs btw

Their support is about the worst I've ever seen in my life - they'll answer your call in 2 minutes. But the person taking the call has no idea what he's doing --- has to send any questions about tech stuff to someone via IM and then wait for an answer --- and is as likely to screw up your account as he is to have an answer for your question.
Unbelievable. I'm on the phone with them right now for the fifth time in two weeks, for three different problems----- and my sites are piddly-ass little ones, a couple of blogs and the rest one-three page static sites.
Find someone else.
 
I am a fan of HostGator as well. Like any hosting company...understaffed.....but otherwise good.
 
I fought with Hostgator for over 3 months. Some of the most stupid people I have ever had to deal with...I had a ticket going all the time. Every day for 3 months was hell working with them.

I wanted one account spit into to different accounts. They did that but all the content went missing. I changed the dns 3 different times as per their instructions. I still don't have all my content back. It was living hell having to deal with these morons.

I was mostly dealing supervisors and admins in the end and trust me they were also working with IQs around 7. I would rate their support around -90 when it comes to more technical stuff. :AR15firin
 
What I've found is that
1. You need to deal with the "shift lead" in order to talk to anyone with a brain.
2. Unless you have an SEO hosting account, there's virtually no chance the lower level people will connect you to the shift lead.
3. Not all shift leads are as good as they sound - one "solved" my problem by moving me to a new server - but then screwed up the setup.

Things are now OK - until the next time, most likely :(
 
If you plan on getting some complains, move on to other hosts.

As far as support, they are ready and willing, but lack much in everyting else, i've had requests done, and the guy only makes half the job, then i complain again, and eventually get it done with another guy.
 
I had lots of problems with hostgator - stupid admin tricks and slow servers.

Wordpress sites crawled.

Had a buddy that had good luck with them for last 1.5 yrs but for last 2 weeks his wordpress sites are now slow like what happened to me.

Said he contacted support and no help.

I've had them "monitoring" my stuff for the last week because of continued problems --- they claim that it's all on my end. It doesn't matter that I can surf the rest of the interwebs just fine - apparently my sites at Hostgator are the only things that are affected by the network congestion that I apparently have been experiencing for almost a week now.... :eek:

Do a google search for watchmouse. They have a free ping test that works from different locations. I tried to post a link but this system did not allow it.

They also have free testing for 30 days.

With this testing from independent locations they (gator) will not be able to BS you and claim it is your problem.

I have no affiliation with watchmouse, just trying to help you out.

I have had DMCA complaints with Hostgator from autoblogs using content from other website. They send me DMCA notice, I remove the content in question, I let them know if there is any other problems please let me know and they thank me.

Never suspended.
 
Ive used Hostgator since around 2002 and have been pretty happy overall. During that same time span I have had the chance to dry dozens of other hosts (client sites) and to be honest I haven't found any that stack up. I can count on one hand the number of problems I have had with them in the last 8 or 9 years, all trivial problems that got sorted out right away. Keep in mind I have run many types of sites on their servers on everything from their shared to reseller and dedicated hosting accounts. Plenty of autoblogs etc. As long as you aren't sucking up major resources on a shared, they will be your best friend.
