My Billion Dollar Mega Plan/Idea

Basically a good idea but it was a mistake to share it here. There are people who can implement this (either by using their own talent or a team of people) on the forums so you gave them a free idea and there's nothing to do about it if they decide to implement the idea (even without crediting you).

If you are going to do this by yourself you must be ready to hire a team of programmers who work on this 24/7 + support people, rent an EXTREMELY expensive hosting plan (your idea in its current form requires huge bandwidth and reliable dedicated hosting). As you said you will also face big privacy problems because it's not wise to let everyone know where you live and the list goes on...

BUT, don't let me stop you or discourage you. The idea is good and you sure have a great imagination. As someone else already said you should start with a little bit smaller plan and then the idea might be achievable some day. I wish you best of luck with the project and let's hope no-one steals it from you! :)
Thanks a lot for your concern and encouraging words! I will surely do my best to implement it!

Interesting idea, but i can't see people putting their exact location with a house on Google Maps, there is such a thing as anonymity and like you said young women could have problems like getting stalked.
That is something that we have to think about..
Regarding the privacy issue.. Maybe we can put up in our policy that it is not advisable for the users to put up their real location and we are not responsible for any issues. Its not like we are demanding them to add their real address! If they want, they can..
Besides the users get the choose where they live, there are lots of places on earth where a person would love to live..

Why don't we start with a small 'virtual town' that you can move into. We can have people choose where they live in it, and a new house gets built(drawn) on that street when they move in. To live in one of the sweet houses/mansions they have to become a paying member. There would be other advantages to paying.

At the heart though it would simply be a social network - so you can do things with your neighbours or street that you cant do with other streets, but you might want to move house to get away from unfit neighbour, bla bla bla

Im a web designer and kinda interested (but not a flash programmer).

Who's up for a mega joint venture , lol

Wow, BHW has some real nice idea creators :).

A small tip from me.

FB Api (Social Users) + Second Life Api (Virtual World) + Google Maps API = A Cool Social Mashup (your idea)

Now go create the next Zynga :D

:P i recommend you go to a place like freelancer and hire some nice coder, this sort of "crazy" ideas you never know.. it might make you ride the dollar. Good mind friend, keep thinking and noting down your ideas

Google Maps API will limit you :) U can use a free open source alternative: OpenStreetMap.

M8 it's nice to have ideas, but to be honest to you, you have no chance to make billion dollars with this idea.

I am connected to more than 10 000 people directly on LinkedIn, and every week I receive at least one invitation to a brand new social network... You can not imagine how many sites and how many various ideas I have seen there. (As being involved in IM, I check every site of course). But what is the member count? Very low on every site...

To make a billion dollar idea, you should produce something absolutely genuine, not just another social network. Anyway, keep it up, and I am sure one day you'll discover your million dollar idea! good luck!

Unless you have massive resources, advanced programmers, and a ton of money this could never work. It is mainly just a combination of sites and other ideas. As others have said, Second Life comes to mind. I'm also pretty sure other companies are working on the exact things you mentioned just in a different light. I don't remember where, but I did read something recently about possible future gaming allowing users to make their neighborhoods into online mapped destructible environments for fps games. Either way, your idea is already way behind and could never really compete with Facebook or Google. Sorry buddy, keep thinking though!

Real cool idea CoolDude2020. But you should never share your best ideas with the wolves around here. I have a incredible idea right now and I am working on executing it right now. Put some action in your idea and execute it. You can do it. Expect stress lots and lots of stress. Good luck to you...
