Do you think making multiple 'sites' on a single host and domain is a good idea, especially for seo and ranking?

For example i'll work on multiple niches: health, photography and affiliate marketing and they'll have their own sites but really they are just pages on one hosting/domain that cant reach each other. (health doesnt have links to photog and affiliate marketing etc.)
i.e.
blog.com/health/blah-article-article
blog.com/photog/blah-article
blog.com/affmar/blah-blah

edit: feel free to move to the correct forum category

Not recommended to go with multiple niches on a single domain. Particularly if you are in learning stage don't do that. You will end up with a mess.

If You are creating blogs for your satisfaction not for making money means, no problem for choosing the different topic. But not a good idea if you want to earn money from it. Pick the best niche and go for that.

I'm not gonna launch them at the same time. Say the health niche is already earning well, I'll launch the aff market on the same host/domain

Maybe each niche on a sub-domain would be better then this? like :
health.blog.com
photog.blog.com
affmar.blog.com

Making a multiniche site is a catastrophic idea. Especially if you do not have vast experience with SEO, it will end up with a massive failure, whether you launch them at once or not. Always keep your money sites within 1 niche.

There are some sites that contain tons of niches, but that requires vast SEO experience and brutal budget.

First problem is, that in order to cover all the topics from all the niches, you would need to have thousands of pages. That's not exactly super doable.

Interlinking will be a problem, in this case, you would need a perfect SILO structure and that's pretty hard to pull off.

Also, Google will have issues to understand what niche your site is and smaller sites that are entirely built around one particular niche rank significantly better compared to some multiniche behemoths. You would lose this advantage.

I see, so theres that. I was under the impression that since I worked hard on my seo, like backlinks for one niche, adding new niches on the same site will get the benefit already.

thanks alot

They would benefit, but not nearly as much as different category within the same niche would.

First learn the difference between hosting on the same host and on the same domain then we can talk.

no, i literally mean one host and one domain. like sign up to one of those hostgator single site offers but then the pages look like different 'sites'

Bad idea, always use a separate domain for each of your niches and why even think about it, a domain isn't expensive and even on shared hosting you can add multiple of them.

theres a theory that each time you get a link from same domain/IP then it will have weaker impact. If you use 20 webs 2.0 and repeat them over and over on every post then that (in theory) would have weaker impact than setting different subdomain for each niche and repeating that backlink profile on each subdomain.

PS I do not know if the loss is big enough that it is worth separating the subdomains (backlink profiles) or if the loss from having multiple backlinks from same domains/IPs actually is not that significant

actually I wanted to create different subdomain for each keyword (in single niche) to maximise the benefit from exact same backlink profiles

You should use one domain name per site
You should use one unique IP per site
You should create unique content for each niche

Better idea is focus on ONE niche, hopefully find success then rinse and repeat.
