Moved Website Over to SSL Now Ranking is Dropping

Hey there, I am a victim of moving my website over to SSL in the hopes of better ranking. Now my rankings have been steadily dropping. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal? Everything is redirected properly, what's going on here?

I don't have a specific need for SSL, so would it actually be best to get rid of it? I just thought it would give me a better ranking factor and make my affiliate marketing site look more trustworthy...

It's been about 12 days so far, am I jumping the gun here to cancel my SSL?

Believe me, SSL is worth it. It would be strange for your rankings to drop because of SSL. When accessing 'insecure' websites Chrome gives out a big red warning, so I would keep it definitely.

The big red warning chrome gives has nothing to do with SSL. The red warning is usually used for sites which have malware.
But I have heard sites that use SSL rank higher though I haven't seen any proof.
 
When I changed over one of my sites to SSL complete with the correct 301 redirects, I noticed that my rankings were dropping as well. I then changed my inbound, links where possible, to the https version of the site and the rankings recovered. It doesn't make a lot of sense but that's my anecdotal evidence.

Thanks for the info. Yeah Big G says that its a ranking factor now so maybe I'll wait a while and hopefully see some better results. Maybe it's dancing and just looks like it dropping before settling where it was, or hopefully higher. Looking through my WMT account where I have both versions added now, I can see that https version was just indexed on the 4th, so maybe I just have to wait.

Thanks. I didn't think of that, so maybe I will attempt going through all my internal links and just making sure they are all pointed to https.

I wasn't referring to my site internal links... I was referring to my site's inbound links... as in external links pointing to my site.
 
I have not seen a site drop do to ssl being added. I would give it a little longer maybe just a little dance.
 
Try installing the real simple ssl plugin and see if that helps with your ssl issues. Webmaster tools can help u determine if your website is compromised.

Ahhh, I hear you, that makes sense. That's going to be a job and a half though. Maybe I'll start working on building new links and cherry pick from the old ones, if that's what's going on.

I already actually have this installed, helped sort out some "mixed content" issues I was having in the beginning. It's a great plugin.
 
Your rankings will come back. It drops, because the url indexed is the http version of the site, and this will bring the rise of the https version of the site up. Just be sure that you properly redirect the non-ssl version of the site so that you do not have two separate indexed sites.

Do you know how long it can take to pick back up if all the redirects are done correctly?
