Move from old vps server serps down!

Hello,

I was using a server for many years and I had my websites' keywords in an stable page ranking on Google on the top 20 for years.

I decided to move to a newer server and I moved all my websites there. Within 3 days, the ranking of all my keywords fell about half on google. I decided to wait for a week to see if it would take time for google to recognize the new server's IP and to get my web's keywords up to their usual ranking but it didn't happen. I decided to move back my websites to my old server to check if it would change, and they did slowly start rising on google rankings. I do want to keep the new server becuase I'm afraid the old one was giving me to many errors and it might fail sometime, but I want to understand how changing the IP for your websites affect your standing on keywords on Google.

Does anyone have any idea why this happen? or how it can be corrected? What other options can I used to update to a newer server without having my pages's keywords plunged? Thank you.

The new server might be on a bad IP neighbourhood.

As you mentioned any change you want to give it some time to see what happens, but possibly the new IP you moved to might have been somewhat blacklisted by google due to maybe adult content or possibly large scale previous spam abuse on that IP.

The other option is the server you moved to might be much slower in which case firstly google won't love that and it could present some other problems like being down when google crawled.
These are both possibilities.

Something you could try when moving servers is switch to using a CDN, this will speed up the page loading times anyway, and should help ensure the IP is a good one.

But generally I feel both of these reasons are probably not the case just a hunch and might be more to do with google fucking around, unless you moved to a really poor quality host or something.

The new server was super fast with litespeed web server, in google insights everything green perfect, still not idea
