I'm developing a website to promote local jobs and want to offer free job listing and free accounts for the people using the site.

With this in mind other than adsense what other ways would be suitable to monetize the traffic on the site, is there a way I could use class offers or are there other better ways to get some revenue.

    Any suggestions welcome.

Definitely looking for some quality advice on this as well - I actually need to do some searching on here too, see if there are any good threads.

I started a site catering to a niche, and then I started a subdomain (jobs.myniche.com)...and forgot about it. Even let hosting lapse on the main .com. Just realized somehow the subdomain is still up, and not only that, earned $200 in the past two months. The subdomain is set up using a SimplyHired site template that just refers people to them.

Anyway, point of this is - I'm reactivating the .com, buying the .net and .org, and spending a week attacking this and streamlining it, putting up the three sites (and making that subdomain a little prettier, MAYBE, might just forget about it), so looking for any and all quality advice on the subject!

One option I'm looking at is something like easyoutsource.com - simple landing page, modest membership fee (if your site or niche can get away with this), affiliate widgets to SimplyHired on the side (or for jobs posted inside that only members can get, and inside, members just get the SimplyHired stocked stuff...whatever's clever).

Really sorry, I noticed after typing my post you mentioned making it all free. ;-) Even more interested in hearing what options people here know of.

I have just launched a professional CV writing service, and I am hoping to recruit some affiliates in the jobs/careers niche to help me promote it. This could possibly fit well with your jobs niche. I'm only a newbie to the IM game but have set up an affiliate program. Let me know if you would be interested. As i've just launched the thing i am in unknown territory without conversion ratios etc.

Sell ad space in addition to adsense ads when you have got a nice amount of traffic on it and a high PR also.

I run a site with a similar concept. One way I have monetized is to charge for access to the CV/e-mail database. It is also good to send a newsletter to your registered members with some embedded affiliate links.

I use indeed publishers program to monetize my job niche traffic. You can check out monster too. But you can only have either 1 of these publishers on your site at 1 time since they are both competitors they won't allow 2 of their ads to be published on the same site.

How hard is it to monetize a job niche site? I mean, other than adsense and paid access to certain jobs, do you guys charge the companies if they hire someone who applied to a job through your site?

I have a niche jobs site as well. It was only making about a hundred a month until I turned it into a membership site and it started making $800 per month right off the bat. Then I fixed the title tags and now it makes in the mid $xxxx range per month. I still want it to make more lol. I also sell a resume service, and I'm trying with affiliate links for relevant books, etc. I would really love to let my users upload portfolios and resumes and charge businesses for access to that but I cant find a good wordpress plug in for it.

I'm pretty sure the primary income stream for job sites in the UK is letting people upload their CV (resume) so employers can access them

These CV's are then sold to marketing companies for £10 to £15 each ($15 to $23)

CV's are loaded with info that marketing companies would like to get their hands on

take fees from recruiters to post jobs, take fees from job-hunters to post their CV like a featured on your website
