You will not be able to continually update the original post but you can post updates in that thread if you want.

is is possible to make an exception just for that thread? I really want to add all this stuff on the original post so everyone can see and motivate people.

No it is not as that is not how the forum works.

You can update your progress in the thread using new posts though which is what most do anyway if they are sharing progress.
