So ive just migrated my old domain to my new domain through google search console. They are exactly the same domains except for the ending. This is an example.

mysite.net --> mysite.co

I noticed once some of the backlinks from my old site were migrated that I lost a ton of impressions and clicks on that exact day.

Does anyone know why this could have happened?

it's normal. migration takes time.

If you done 301 well, you can get it back sooner or later.

mysite.net --> mysite.co it's not exact same domain btw.

you need to go to your old domain and do 301 redirects on most of your important pages to their corresponding page on the new domain

Are your sites built with Wordpress? You can use a plugin named Redirection in your mysite.net and apply a 301 redirect to all the pages and domain so that Google will understand that the site is now migrated to the new location - mysite.co

This will help pass all the incoming link juice to the new domain and you will not lose any SEO benefit.
