According to XDA Developers, Microsoft will finally close Skype in May 2025.

The date was found in the code of the latest version of the app, which also states that a certain number of “friends have already switched to Teams for free,” presumably based on user contacts.
Starting in May, Skype will no longer be available.

Skype was first launched in 2003 and was acquired by Microsoft in 2011.

everyone seems to be using Telegram nowadays, so I'm not surprised...

Also, the first time I ever used Skype was last year and not even 10 minutes into using it I immediately got blocked / limited / whatever it was for a word that I used or for the topic that I discussed, I really don't remember the reason because I chose not to remember it out of annoyance.

So yeah, with this level of paranoia and censorship I'm not surprised that nobody wants to use these data harvesting and spying tools anymore.

This sucks. I used Skype basically since 2009 and i still use it nowadays. Much more than any other messengers to this day.

XFire was cool, Skype just bullied my earlier devices;

Discord was game changing, now there's nearly no need for any of them...

nope
its was "discord" before discord was a thing
but when discord came, it quickly became outdated and irrelevant
guess they are trying to come back with a new design & features to match the current technology era
You can only imagine how much revenue discord took from the space...

Fair play to them for keeping at it :D :D

I loved XFire. I loved the functionality that it actually was tracking your in-game time and displayed it for everyone else to show off what kind of a nerd you are.
Was where my marketing and sales started, thats about 2014 for me I'm sure!

Nice to see someone else remember that bad boy

I might be in the minority here but is this actually confirmed? I will not consider this final until microsoft itself or some other big news company reports that its happening. For now I only see tech bloggers/forums report on it.

It's time to look for a big alternative. Skype has been one of the most common platforms for user connections on BHW. Not sure what people will prefer for contact now. I appreciate that BHW offers free editing for adding new contact details :p
