Micro Niche EMD WP Question

Hey Guys,

I'd like to pick your brains if I may.

For a micro niche wordpress EMD website, should the homepage be left as the general blog style list of latest posts, that will include an article for the main money keyword (that is the EMD Keyword).

Or should you make that main money keyword article the static homepage?

My worry is, if left like a traditional blog the main keyword article will be competing with the root EMD for the keyword.

I think I know what the answer is (make it the homepage), but does anyone have any experience to share on this type of thing?

I generally make my homepage at least 1,400 words and as many as 2,000 and make it generic in nature as to the niche with a few links to some of my inner pages but do not target any particular KW while writing it.

The inner pages are the ones I want to rank when I build a site and the root page is really just a gateway for the bots to come by at best.
 
Yes, but what about for an EMD? Won't they be competing with each for the main keyword if it's on an internal post page?

Actually no, I have lots of the same KWs for the same site on page 1 of Google for my sites so there should not be an issue; I do build large sites though and if you are thinking about a small site (under 200 pages or so) that may be different and I could be 100% wrong.

You won't be able to take full advantage of the EMD (if any) if you do not publish your primary article on the homepage.

Yes, that's pretty much what I thought.

And as for the EMD being of any advantage these days, your probably right.

But it's only now I'm getting around to building them, I bought them years ago when EMD's were all the rage! Might as well use them I suppose.
 
Doesn't really matter. It would be better to use latest posts as homepage. In this case you'll have fresh content on homepage.

Do you have any sites under 15 pages receiving acceptable traffic? I know you have some big ones.
