    Hi,

Do you know of any methods to increase the time a visitor spends on a site?

    ** Bounce rate = 15%
    But
** Average time spent on site = 37 seconds

    (Google Analytics)

    Thanks.

Well, your bounce rate is good yet the time spent on the website is not very good... What kind of website do you have? You could put better content on it. Is it just images?

Videos are great for increasing visit duration.
Infographics (extremely well designed) would help as well.

Good text articles (stories and the like) will produce good results, too. Also, for example, if you already have articles which are dead serious, maybe give it a lil' flavor of humor (not too much) and people will have fun reading them and follow your articles.

    Boobs :p

on a more serious note, you are not really providing them what they are expecting when they visit your site.

Good content always captures the attention. If the site is fully content based, try to increase the way for engagement with the readers.

In other way, as bk071 said, videos will significantly increase the time if you can relate well.

There's that when someone tries to close the page, you give that option 'are you sure you wanna leave?'.

It's a cheap trick & lasts for a second but still, came to my mind. :D

Divide your article into two pages. Insert "next page" which links to the 2nd part of your article which is in a different page.

Try a Related Posts plugin, so people will continue to read your other content after every post.

Add some relevant videos to your content along with a side table of your most recent posts. This should help to increase the time stayed on your website.

Do you have a bunch of ads above the fold? Sounds like they're landing...scrolling a bit to get through ads and then hitting the back button. Use an image to grab attention, make sure your title is an H1 and then consider removing any ad blocks that are above the fold. If you have good content and highly focused ads you will still get clicks.

    And everything WPCrew said.

If you are using too much ads, you may want to reduce them down because it makes the website look spammy and visitors will leave quickly.

What page are the majority of people landing on? My understanding of time on site is that it can only be measured when a visitor visits more than one page so if people are quickly navigating from your homepage to a post in 37 seconds and then staying on that post page for 5 minutes before closing the window/tab then that will still only count as 37 seconds on site.

What is your pages per visit number looking like?
