Just when I thought I was about to close in on my first sale after God knows how many emails (roughly 1,500+), my one and only (potential) client hits me up with this:
"You are not ranking on google search ...
Send by iPhone"
So much for rankings not making a difference.

I struggle to see how any business owner no matter how cash rich is going to pay $200 to be listed on a random site(unless the internet is a new thing in town ?)
I would have thought that first you built a quality branded directory site, then you get it indexed and ranking well on all search engines. Then you could attempt to approach business owners. Personally I would offer to list them for free and only after a year when they are used to their listing would I offer to upgrade them to "featured listings" for $$

Now I'm not agreeing with the OP's method, but I can assure you that ranking does not make a difference. People buy value, so my best guess is that you failed to convey enough value to charge $200.
Mind sharing your email sales copy? Because if the email sucks, then you're not going to get any results.

Thanks for the method, I just had a couple questions.
When you're contacting them in the initial email, do you mention the site URL?
Because if you do, then more than 5 want to purchase the listing spot, then how do you handle that?
For instance say the URL is MyCityDentists.com, you essentially say "Hey list with me for $200 on MyCityDentists.com"
But if more than 5 want to list on MyCityDentists.com how do you explain that "Actually I'll list you under DentistsInMyCity.com"?

Do you know how many phone calls/ emails these people get per WEEK with different advertising offers, much valuable than a listing on a site with no traffic?
Dentist and lawyers are bombed with offers and they are much more intelligent as you think. This method would NOT work as described in OP, period.

Veyron- Hate to say it but I'm going to call BULLSHIT on this post.
Here's why:
A) To get that amount of closes via email, you are talking a ridiculous OPEN rate, and then CLOSE
rate, which if anyone has email experience, knows is impossible.
B) Even if your emails were pre qualified TARGETED LEADS they wouldn't close at that rate.
C) I would even go as far and say that at that % you could even offer it for FREE and you wouldn't get that response.
I know this to be true because I have alot of local seo + email experience and have worked warm/hot and cold leads.
Bottom line: Can you make money with the method Veyron has outlined? Yes. Can you make the money as seemingly easy Veyron has claimed?
No. Not a chance.
Example: I had a method where we were getting 1/100th% responses to emails sent to business owners. So to get a decent amount of leads daily, we had to mail a list of around 10k per day (10 leads per day off that volume)
Now out of THOSE leads, we would call them (not email) and with a $99 price point sale, we would close around 10% (one out ten) with my BEST salespeople. Some of the sales would be bumped to $199-399 depending on the client.
But that was 10,000 emails sent to business owners. We had a method to get LOCAL business owners with very fresh emails. No, don't ask me how, because it is now impossible to do so.
But that should give you an idea of how difficult it is to close SBO's even when you target them

What about doubling down on a method like this and tossing in one of my premium phone numbers to go with the site. Numbers that end 9999 etc. with all the listings already created. I have an outsource guy that will do 350 for $54. Who is coming with me?

You can call whatever you want but my method(s) of closing deals are obviously much better and more effective than those practiced by you and your team. I can't tell that you have good marketing experience if you're closing 1 deal out of every 10,000 sent emails. Thanks for your input though. I've always had much higher conversions than others over the years and I've had many people ask how I close deals so well and I never devuldged
