Well to rank a site is not that complicated, learn how to do keyword research and do on page SEO, then you just make links targeting your keywords (using the keywords and urls as anchor text), it does not matter if your site is a blog, web 2.0 or e-commerce site, its the same process regardless.
For ideas of what types of links works.
Go to the buy sell section of the forum, and see the latest and most popular sales thread, and find out read the reviews from people. Then you can copy what they do in the sales thread, or you can just order a few gigs from them.
