im curious, does the suite like RankTracker show this kind of information without actually having to go through all the steps? I mean I dont really mind, I think this was a great write up. Is this just an old method of how people are finding proper keywords?

Market Samurai is a great tool for keyword research.
You can put in your seed keyword, and set filter to find exact searches of say at least 1000 searches and a max. number of competition in quotes of no more than 30K (I would recommend this setting for quite easy keywords, that most noobs would be able to rank with exact match domain and a couple of decent gigs from fiverr.
Here is a Guide on using Market Samurai to find keywords.

Not sure if this has been said in this thread (maybe I missed it), but when I search my keyword without quotes its like 187,000. When I search with the quotes Its MORE like 1,998,000
About 90% of the quote(exact match) searches I do are greater than the broad(going to Big G and searching broad/exact)
Any idea why this is?

On the image from Google Adwords Tool, there are the columns Global Monthly Searches and Local Monthly Searches. Which one do I focus on? Right now I'm working on a site for Christmas in the United States. Do I focus on Local Monthly Searches? For the search results, is there a low number and a high number that I should stay within? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
well local just means if you want to know how many people are searching for a keyword coming from a particular country.
I.e if you want to only know how many people from the US search for "xmas trees", you put your settings to US and then you look at the local results
If you want global... you will see the results from world wide searches.
Hmmm I would deal with 100 exact searches as a minimum. and max. of 20K searches as a newbie.... coz 9 times out of 10 the keywords above that will be hard for you to rank.

Its all right buddy,
your questions aint as nooby as some other people's
So I dont really mind
.Any ways, its a good keyword to start with, I would set up a page, do on page SEO. And buy some social book markings and EDU links and maybe a web 2.0 link wheel. $15 ...3 gigs from fiverr.com
Then wait and see the results, and that will give you a idea of how hard it is to rank, from there on... just take on a keyword with maybe 500 - 1500 exact searches.... and continue on your journey
