[Method] STEP by STEP Keyword Research for Newbies

Just got MS, I have TT as well.

Is there any way to do a mass SEO competition gather rather than having to click one by one and search the top10's for each keyword.

Or is there anothe rfilter I should be running to get the bad keywords out after I have the search volume and cpc nailed down

Not with those two tools.

I think there is a tool called IMeye that does that. Not 100% though, but its a really expensive program.

Any ways...

I have another question if i may.

The more I'm digging into keyword research, the more back link pages keeps coming up, are noobs like me better to stay clear if Ms shows about 700+ for blp for the top 10?

The other results looked beatable, but I've read to be cautious of BLP.
 
I appreciate this thread, have looked over it a couple of times...but I am actually confused as to what it is that determines if a keyword is good to target. I can do the research (thanks to this post)...but I am not even sure how to choose what keyword to target and in what situations or what words on your post mean and how I could use that information from this research.

Appreciate the help, truly.

I have answered the question a few times.

A typically good keyword for a newbie, is a keyword that has max 30K competition in quotes, and has at least 1K searches per month (exact).


But with that said, you should do your own testing and find out how hard a keyword like that is to rank, or how is it is so you get your own feel for things.

This is a fundamental method that will always work.
Its like doing research on a paper your going to write report on, the basic steps will always be the same, you can always change a few steps here and there, but the fundamental will always be the same.

I don't plan on adding it. The people that feel its needed are more than welcome to post their Opinion on how to analyse competition.

I just look at the figure you get when you type the keyword in "quotes" and normally just go by that, the only time I look at the top 10, is if the keyword has lots of exact searches (5K - 10K or more).... then I try to see what the avg. number of sites with on page and the avg. number backlinks the top 10 sites have and if they are at least 1 or 2 sites ranking in the top 10 that have a new domain, with less than 500 - 1000 links , I tend to go for the keyword.

Changes in the google algorithm will have an effect on how you optimize and promote your sites and offers. The basics of SEO usually stay pretty much the same, but you need to keep up on the specifics because those can change dramatically.

Keyword research on the other hand isn't really affected by the algorithm changes. What you're doing is researching to find out what terms people are searching for and how much competition there is for those search terms. The methods for doing that are pretty constant. You won't find much even in a 5yo guide on niche and keyword research that isn't still useful today.

This thread from IamNRE is still as good a guide today as it was when he wrote it last year.

Appreciate the post. I'm still somewhat of a newb but the level of detail provided showed me some things I hadn't seen before. You can learn something new everyday. =)
