I'm new to keyword research so this will really help me down the line, thanks very much.

I'm not complete newbie, but I have also learnt something, thanks!

how are your adsence type sites holding againest the panda updates?

My white hats....yes.

Not the auto blogs.

@ The "thanks".... your welcome guys, glad I was helpful.

i already use this method for optimize my local keyword analyse since the op first post...well all my keyword rank on the first page with ranking 1,2,3,4,5 using simple link pushing...thanks to OP...and +rep :D

how should i assess the competition from authority sites with less powerful pages that will be competing with my keywords?

for example: several of the keywords in the niche im exploring right now have ehow sites raked in the top 3 or so in on google. ehow itself has a page rank of 7, but the specific page that shows up on google at the #2 spot for this keyword has a PR of 3.

should i treat this competing page like i would any other PR3 site?
treat it like a strong PR3 site? or would this be like competing with an impossible PR7 site?

i could give you more numbers but they all point to the same question i have here. just want a general answer, no need to get more wordy than i need too :o

i cant quote this picture, but it is on page 7 of this thread

Take a look at position 7 and ask yourself if you can outrank that guy.

^this may be a good example as well.
site #7 is ranked ahead of the the #8 site which has a PR of 5 and 3 million+ backlinks

site #7 has a PR of zero and very little backlinks. we cant see what site it is but could #7 be benefiting from a strong parent domain like ehow?
if not, does this show the power of having really really good keyword targeted site content?

Im sorry bro, I can not give you a clear cut answer. Google works in mysterious ways!

Best advice I can give you, is dont be scared to take on heavy competition.

With enough relevant links and high PR links you can out rank any site (always make sure your on page is top notch, I have written a guide on this too).

I look at it like this, if that guy can get to that position with that many links I am sure with double the links he could probably get even better ranking.

Just because a site has PR 5 and is 10 years old does not mean that you wont be able to out rank it.

But really, you need to get a feel for it.

Try ranking for easy keywords and medium tough keywords and also a hard keyword and see what the results are.

NRE - Great work; all your time spent answering questions is outstanding. I read this a while back and picked up some things, then forgot them, now rereading it again to remember what I forgot the first time around. Normally takes 3 times for stuff to sink in, slow learner, thick headed or mildly retarded. Got a little shine i think, lol. I have been revisiting this idea and just can not let it go, would love to get your feedback and others to see if I am just as retarded as I think I am.
Question: (preface with-) hard to tell as it depends on type of SEO, SEM, SMM etc. But throwing many tactics at it, consistently....How long do you think it will take to rank this, 1st page top 3-5?

Local Search (exact) - 74000
kw results- 6,000,000
pages- 92 of 6,000,000 (910 omitted or already displayed) little fuzzy on how this works and if it is accurate?
inurl-260000
intitle-338000
both-6760

Thats a pretty good help for newbies. Thanks for that.

@Hardy Bents.

I could not answer that question.

Its not just as simple as that. It depends on so many factors I would not even know where to start.

But lets say you had $2K to invest in SEO + PR 5 domain that is at least 3-4 years old, and you do on page SEO, and you buy the right SEO services(not just spam links i.e not xrumer/SB)......

2-3 months.

If you talking a small budget ($200-500) with a new domain..... I dunno bro... still depends on the SEO you do/buy.... and even then maybe you will never even rank in top 10.... maybe 3 months.

I know thats not a lot of help.... as I keep telling you guys... try and see, personal experience and intuition will be much more useful than any guru or expert (not that im either).

thanks for that...Thats why I prefaced the question. I understand it was a question that has multiple variables depending on many factors. But what you just gave helps me out. You gave me what I was looking for. Confirmation that I should not give up on this idea and that indeed it is possible to reign hell fury.
