I have been doing this for a while, figured out which niche works best and this is the result in december:
Just keep at it and certain pictures will go "viral" and boom.
Two tips, use a twitter bot to follow the followers of people in your niche on twitter. The second advice is use the queue system on tumblr make sure you post 5-6 times a day so you cover all the timezones.

It depends alot on your niche, if you have BDSM cute girls, gay etc. But in general I praise the girl "Can't wait to see her undress" basic stuff.
