There seems to be a bit of a ridiculous competitor like "trustedreviews" and other review sites that literally review EVERYTHING. What do you advise to get away from those?

Kitchen appliances would be a good thing to target but you should probably start out with just dominating the microwaves niche and then moving forward and building the rest of the site out.

Otherwise you're going to regret it. You're #1 for everything microwave related, talked about every product and have no room to grow. Do you want to throw the site's authority away and start a new one? Probably not. Expanding on an existing site is much easier.

So you suggest dominating one area but having a domain which is able to target a wider audience rather "microwavexpert.com"

This is really a misconception mate, it isn't harder to sell a $100 then to sell a $12 item, this conception only flies when you have untargeted traffic, but if you have targeted traffic for both items (cheap and expensive) selling them is just as hard or as easy
 
I have a keyword that gets about 1000 searches a month with 'best keyword' only receiving 10 searches a month. For my pilliar article should I be targeting just the keyword without the best modifier in my title/h1/article/backlinks on its own or can I use 'best keyword' and still be able to rank on the serps for just the keyword on its own?

Definitely. There will come a point where you reach the potential of your niche and will want to expand. It's much easier on an existing site vs a new one.

This is crucial. Traffic from google (for buyer keywords) will convert 10-15x better than less targeted traffic. Don't expect low quality social traffic to convert well. Build a high quality site from the ground up!

Awesome. I've decided to go with something similar as I think that area is heavily reliant on certain things. Just gotta write my first article. If you want, I could PM you and you could tell me how it's looking at the minute? Kinda don't wanna mess it up if you get me.

Is there any good and free theme that looks like the layout described in the guide without much editing? I'm currently using the theme prolog, here is a demo http://demo.themeum.com/#prolog
As you can see, instead of a long page, users have to click 'Continue reading..' for the full page which I do not want. Appreciate if someone can teach me how to change it.

Very difficult picking a niche, I am interested in it, but writing a whole load about it is difficult. Plus most of the things to write about are already out there, so no 'viral' sharing is going to happen.

Finally got my earnings, £0.60! Nothing much, but it is a start I guess. Haven't read this thread in a while, but good to see some ££. Just need ideas to drive traffic really. 5B out yet?

And no, 5B is still not out. Meathead talked about writing it soon, but we'll have to wait a little longer.
 
I have a little problem. I've just finished an article with the main keyword: "my product under $1000". When I post it on my website, Yoast SEO plugin doesn't recognize it as a keyword and tell me that I have 0% keyword density because I haven't used the keyword in the article. Does this happen because of "$" in the keyword? How can I fix it? It doesn't recognize in the title either.
 
I'm a copywriting freelancer and write in my native language.
I think the hardest part with me is content writing in english, i don't have much knowledge about this.
but i'll learn how to write a good content when i build the site. that'll be a very awesome journey.

Does the keyword you picked have the '$' in it? Yoast is just trying to get you to use the target keyword where its most effective. In the title, the first paragraph, the headers and in the content. If you use another plugin, like say All in one SEO pack, the target keyword and the green signal thingy is not even there. So, as long as you have used the kw, it should be ok even if Yoast misbehaves and tells you that its not.
