To all those attempting this, think about what is going on:
1. A user reads a link on some site (twitter, Yahoo Answers, Facebook, a forum, etc) that they are interested in.
2. They click the link expecting to go to the target (article, video, whatever)
3. They see the sexy.co page, with a ten second timer and your ad interrupting them.
That ad has to be so in tune with something they want or need in order to get them to click it while they are waiting to get to their destination.
So, promoting a $2000 product or an ebook on clickbank 'might' work. But chances are they are going to say, ah, another ad (turn on the blinders).
But, as the op pointed out, if your ad is something very similar to what they need or want, there is a good chance they will click on it.
Let's pretend the OP covertly were to use this strategy here. What are people interested in? Well, if the link was posted in the 'EMail Marketing' forum ... and the ad offered to show them how to guarantee near 100% deliver-ability to the inbox, a good percentage of people would click the ad. Of if the link was posted in the Adsense forum and the ad offered to double the CTR of their adsense pages, chances people would click it.
So, as previously advertised, use some time to think things through. Put your feet in the shoes of your ideal target and make a plan. Test it. Tweak it and bank it.
