I think you can actually go to 160 but after about 155ish google will insert the "..." at the end of the next word. Good news is you can always tweak it if it doesn't look right.

I have done this and had good results, leaving it open ended but not simply cut off like that, gonna have to try it.
Lately been trying to add special characters to bring more attention like " ★ ☆ ✰ " They seem to show up in the description but not in the title from the few tests I've done.

I would try and figure out the most common question that someone looking for that guide would ask, then write the description accordingly. So if you have a guide on say selling on ebay you could end the description with something like "89 percent of people don't make money selling on e-bay because they don't"
Maybe I should just copy paste this post into an e-book and sell it on some other forum for 19.99, then I can retire. lol.
