Hi sorry i have another math question i need help with please.

-1/8q + 250 = 1/12q + 16 2/3

I have the answer to q which is q= 1120

I need to know the steps taken to get to that answer please anyone?

Multiply both sides by 12q.

Get all values of q onto one side (ie +1.5q to both sides)

Subtract 16 2/3 from both sides to get all numbers onto the opposite side to q.

Divide both sides by the coefficient of q (ie 2.5)

You should have q = 1120 in front of you, if that's correct.

1/8q + 250 = 1/12q + 16 2/3
250 = 1/12q+16(2/3)-8q
250-12q = 32/3-8Q
250..................................... errrrr cant image more steps :P
 
Sorry, i cannot help you regarding this.. I was a very very bad at maths.

-1/8q + 250 = 1/12q + 16 2/3

-1/8q -1/12q = 16(2/3) -250

-1/8q -1/12q = 32/3 -250

(-3 -2)/24q = (32-750)/3

-5/24q = -718/3

multiplying both sides by -1

5/24q = 718/3

5 x 3 = 718 x 24q

15 = 718 x 24q
15/718 = 24q
0.0208 =24q
.........looks like something is wrong in my calculations....It is hard to do on a laptop. I should have solved on a paper
 
Try going to Wolframalpha, all the math help you'll need there! Helped me all the time!

I did excatly the same as you, and got the same answer.

Then I gave up the challenge, and decided to find it here.

The problem as I see it was the OP mentioning -1/8q incorrcectly :)
-1/8q should have been -q/8

hence the distorted answers lol

-1/8 q + 250 = 1/12q + 16 2/3

-1/8 q = 1/12q + 50/3 - 250

-1/8q = 1/12q + 50/3 - 250

-1/8q = 1/12q + 50 - 750 / 3

-1/8 q - 1/12 q = - 700/3

(-1/8 - 1/12) q = - 700/3

(-12-8/12*8) q = - 700/3

(-20/96)q = -700/3

-20q = -700/3 * 96

-20q = - 67200/3

-20q = 22400

-q = - 22400/-20

-q = -1120

q = 1120

if "16 2/3" means 16 multiplied by 2 thirds, then you got the first step of this is wrong, as 16 * 2/3 is not 50/3.

Just wanted to point out that the upper line is not clear as you wrote it. Not saying it's wrong, just visualy not optimal. I'd add "(" ")" around the part I marked because otherwise you'd normaly do like 50 - (750/3). But I see that this is just a visual problem since normaly you'd write the sum just obove the fraction line. So for the record, this is how I'd put it: -1/8q = 1/12q + (50 - 750) / 3

I think that's only true for letters like 16q. At least I have never seen something like 15 6 42 2 that actually meant 15 * 6 * 42 * 2. So I'd say 16 2/3 actually means one number (16.6666666666666666666666666666666666... looks so stupid...), to be exact 16+2/3 .
