I've been reading a lot of the threads on here about mass emailing for affiliate links, products, etc. I understand that it takes time to build a list of people who are interested in your mailings - it's all a numbers game.

I have friends who are starting up companies worldwide - as am I. One of the key problems with a start up is the initial traction for your product. It's easy to be Facebook with a billion users, but much harder to be the next Facebook...with 10 users. I know that AirBnB used CL spamming to get their initial user base (or at least grow it quickly). I'm interested in a repeatable blackhat method to get that initial traction for a start up.

In order to make a userbase, you'd need to cut through 100ks of emails to get that initial 1,000 who you can launch with. I'm intrigued by mass emailing as the method to do this. I like that it's sending emails - something I am very familiar with. It's also relatively cheap and scalable. I'm looking for the $200 max method of building this initial list. And even better if it can be used for multiple start ups at the same time.

However, do you guys know of other methods to build that 1,000 initial user base? I know that initial funnel needs to be very large to get 1,000 interested and excited users when you launch a start up. I'm thinking apps, websites, etc.

Thoughts?

Yes and he will get his one IP blacklisted within a 2 hours if he will start sending spam emails and his VPS suspended within a day...big deal.

With a warm up period on the IP of a few days, it should help a bit. Then proper bounce / unsub handling would get you a ways further.

But yes, that is an issue. Unlike using throw away domains, the campaign needs to be roughly tied to the company and, ideally, the domain is properly validated to the VPS for sending. So there's the issue of ripping through potentially millions of emails while not ruining a brand and building a consumer base.

Or just ruin another brand to promote the site...an "ad agency" promoting the site maybe?

For a couple of my startups I've been planning on using targeted lists by purchasing the leads lists for some. Others I'm creating the targeted list myself by driving traffic to a landing page which will then have a button (the call to action) to signup for Beta invite, which is really my email list on Mailchimp

So basically you can setup a landing page and drive the mass traffic to your page and only the ones who are interested in the subject of your site or product, will want to sign up for that mailing list. As i said, in my case, It is a Beta invite button... in your case, It may be "we are under construction but can we email you when complete" or something along those lines. That was just a quick example.
