Both comments are stating the obvious and are completely and utterly unnecessary. Do you think he didn't know that, and built the 3k backlinks by accident? Please take some time before posting something. Take a look at the screenshots posted. Both screenshots contain sites in the top 10 that their domain age and let me assure you in my case there are no authority backlinks pointing to many of the competitors.
@hamd001 : MS shows a small portion of google's signals used for ranking. In your case your competitors are doing quite ok with enough backlinks and some of the with on-site SEO. They are probably getting traffic and if they have adsense, probably get google some money. Since they seem like established sites (their PR reflects that), it should take you some time to build your content before G trusts you and puts you up there.

OK I am fed up with people here as always do. My rules:
1- If somebody says "domain age" is important, run away and never see him, never listen to him. (Then there would be no new sites and niche concept would never exist)
2- If somebody says "quality of backlinks", call 911 and make him to get to a nearby clinic.
3- If someone says "PR" is important, call Putin, he will give him the lesson he deserves.
4- If someone says "BLEG is not the answer", Give him a french kiss.
BLEG is the answer. Shows the backlinks coming to your domain or page. Solve the BLEG equation. It should be clearly analyzed. If you have more than 3K backlinks and only one BLEG, then there is a problem.

Competitors can have billions of links. Then nobody in this universe could compete with wikipedia, amazon, imdb or big sites. The important factor is the backlinks to the page (Which is shown as BLEG) not the number of backlinks coming to main domain name.
Please do not say that PR is important. If it were, there would never be niche concept, niche term or niche sites. There would never be BHW forum if you were right.
Hamd001, sorry but getting the right info from BHW seems harder and harder everyday. Because, this place is full of fools who do not know they are fool and behave and write like a genious in a profound way.
Look at the graph again. If the commenters here were right, then 5th and 8th sites would be 500 pages back rather than lying in top10. Since weeks have passed and you are not still on page 1, maybe there is a problem with your niche or keyword analysis.

I also ensured my image tags were keyword targetted.
I then launched the site and began building links....manually. I only put links on sites with at least a PR3, and only in my niche.
At the same time I also started putting fresh content into my blog everyday.
So guys....after reading all your comments I'm not sure what I should do next.
Should I stop worrying about my own site and start posting articles at article directories?
Or have I done something horribly wrong! HELP!
