I have used Market Samurai to analyse my competition for a keyword. I have a new domain, which I have had for a few weeks, and according to the stats in MS I seem to be doing ok. My site is the first one in the list (in the image), and the competing top ten sites are below.

As you can see mine is one of only 2 sites which has the kw in the url, domain name, and tags. I aslo have more backlinks than most.

I should mention that in market samurai my site is at the top of the list because I manually added it. the problem is that for the keyword in Google I'm not even on the top 200 pages!!

Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Google just thinks that your site sucks and there are others better than it.

Keep working on it and getting backlinks

Thanks for not wrapping your reply up in cotton wool. It's just that I could do with knowing why google thinks I suck :( I have more backlinks, a 500 word blog post every day (manually created), and I have the kw in everything I'm supposed to (unlike the competition). According to everything I know....Google should be having rampant full on sex with my site!

Heres my 2cents why your website isn't in the top 200.

1. Domain age:weeks old vs. years old
2.Quality of backlinks: its not just the quantity of the backlinks that is factored into the ranking but its really a combination of quality and quantity. Where do most of your backlinks come from? Are they coming from reputable websites or is it just bunch of blog comments and forum profiles? Like nufaman says keep building backlinks from various sources (e.g. articles, web2.0, blog comments, forum profiles, directories and etc.)

How old is your website compared to the other sites? Google needs to trust you before putting you ahead of the other websites. Just get more backlinks and vary your link sources.

Thanks guys...it is a new site....but then again so are some of the others who are in the top ten.

I've been writing my own articles and submitting them to article directories. Backlinks have come from mainly forums, but some social bookmarking and directories too. All my backlinks have been niche targetted, and at least PR3 (page).

Ill keep plodding on...and hope things improve.

Google is slow as hell. Nothing much you can do except keep working and hope things improve

I just went through Google's top 1000 results...and Im nowhere to be seen :(

Most of the time I am in the same situation as you are right now. Even though everything says I should rank first, big G just doesn't like my face.

Because I am super lazy building backlinks, I find uber low competition keywords to play with. I am talking about competitor pages ranking #1 with fewer backlinks than 10.

I build a site, keyword focused (not heavily to avoid red flags) and google just doesn't want to rank me in first page. Even though my site is 90% more relevant than the others (remember is an uber low competition keyword) they just don't rank me.

So don't feel bad about it :)

Sorry no offense but this is all wrong and do not write again elsewhere. I think you do not know how to read this graph.

According to the graph taken from MS, you are a lucky guy. My domains take their places on the SERPS (if they have keywords in domain names-which is the most important for a site IMHO) between 20-40 after a week including only one post .

My adviceto you is not to add posts everyday. For the very first month, just add 1-3 posts. Wait 1-3 days for indexing. Then submit your RSS feed to RSS directories (I use RSS submitter). Then, grab backlinks. There are actually lots of things to do in-between, but I believe these are OK for a start.

submitting my rss feed isnt something i have done. will give that a go.

Not sure why you say Im a lucky guy though? And yes, my domain name is very keyword rich for my niche.

Because the graph shows that it is a child's play to be #1 with a little effort (but please be stable and careful).

In the picture we see what I was talking about before...

An experiment I am doing trying to rank with zero backlinks... In some other projects which was a bit harder I managed to get some rankings. In this one however which should be super duper easy to rank, my site is at 80+ not moving for a week now...

So even though I should be ranking as you should I dont :)

Any comments welcome

Appearantly. It's not impossible to be amongst the top tenners for your KW, according to your MS competition tool.
However your frequent posting (1 article per day) might give the impression of autoblogging which will definitly get flagged by G.
I would sugget, since your writing muse is around, that you start building other sites (squidoo, posterous, blogger ...) besides posting to notorious article sites such as Ezinearticles. Burst them all with relevant backlinks. Then, wait and see.

BLEG=0 Does it mean anything to you? Maybe (actually for sure) it is the answer.

Market Samurai is great. It gives you alot of important info. It even searches backlinks for you and finds you quality ones.

Is this your contribution to this thread? Or are you giving a break for commercial here?

Actually, Yes. That is my contribution. I have used Market Samurai a lot and it DOES seem to help. He had some suggestions from other members about his situation with google and my response was pertaining to his title.
