Manual Penalty, should I continue?

I have a 2 year old domain, DA 45.

Done a lot of work on it, but it got a manual penalty. I tried the linkremoval services, etc. And they didn't remove the penalty.

It's pharma, and I know they won't remove it most likely.

My question is, WITH the penalty. if I spend a lot of effort building amazing high quality links. WILL it rank? It's bouncing around the serps right now and slowly climbing around page 4-5, but hasnt moved past that much.

I'm curious to know if I should even bother building more links and will it rank #1 at ALL?

dont worry about my keywords, or my stats. I feel I know what I'm doing.
I'm just curious if OTHERS have ranked manual penalty sites to #1 at all, or does the algo completely cut you off from achieving top spot and there's no chance in hell?

Most penalties can be fixed with a little effort, some hard work and an ethical approach to rebuilding your site. Google wants to rank websites which are delivering the best user experience.
 
You did the link removal but did you submit the reconsideration request?

My advice is do not waste time and good links on your site. Instead spend that time and effort to build a new site, preferably on an aged niche relevant, clean link profile domain. You will get nowhere with a site with manual penalty and it will never get past page 4. That is the whole point of penalty is its locked out of top rankings. Basically in jail!

Even if the penalty gets lifted, you will still find it hard to rank the site ever again...unless it is a huge brandable site..which your pharma site is likely not. Its like getting out of jail and applying for jobs with a criminial record.

At this point that's more then likely going to be his best bet.

Research & find another niche domain with good domain metics and start over fresh, from my experience, even if a penalty is lifted/removed, I always find it to be difficult to rank that site/domain again.
 
But before that try a reconsideration request. They will remove penalty only after that. I had received some manual penalty in the past for buying some blogroll links from a famous network. I removed those links and send a request in WMT.

The site was back up again.

try all that, then only consider building a new site.

That's what I mentioned above that he should submit a reconsideration request but he hasn't answered as to whether or not he has.
It still wouldn't hurt though to get a second site going in the event the reconsideration request is unsuccessful.
 
ive already done 2 reconsideration requests with huge link lists removed from linkdelete and linkremoval.com, etc.

Both denied, and I was simply just wondering IF the site will rank at ALL with a manual penalty by building high quality links, which I have been.

It's boucning around on the 4th page at the moment. up from page 6, etc.

So if the answer is; NO it will not rank #1 at ALL. 0% chance of getting it to #1 with a manual penalty. Then that's the answer I'm looking for.

I've already been looking for other domains, but it's a biznatch because ahrefs just changed their free account to 5 searches per day, and i think it's around the same with majestic.
Don't have monye to buy ahrefs at the moment.

So, wondering what my options were. Not interested in doing more link removal to deal with the penalty, just wanted to know if a penalty is on it. Would it rank higher than what it already is, OR if anyone with a penalty HAS ranked a site.
 
Any good domain tools that I can use to find an expired domain? I'm using domain hunter gatherer and it sucks. Doesn't pull all the metrics that you specify it to. Glitchy I guess.

Not sure of any other tools to look for niche relevant domains.
 
That domain is dead, if you wanna use some of the old juice you could 301 it to a web2.0 property as a tier 2, but imho you should move on to other things instead of trying to save this domain, i understand it hurts (it often does) but sometimes you have to take your loses and move on.
 
It will not come back at no. 1 of course. Or it might take decades, probably we won't care anymore.

Your best bet will be 301 it to a new domain then start over from there.

Been there, done that (and yes, after whining and wasting a very long time trying to save the baby).
 
If your reconsideration requests were denied I wouldn't waste any more time on the site. Page 4-5 doesn't sound that bad (I was penalised and my site wasn't even in the top 100 pages) but if they've denied your reconsideration requests you probably won't get to page 1 as the penalty remains.
 
From what it sounds like, either the service didnt really do much, or you quit too early. I've lifted penalties where I went back and forth 4-5 times to get the penalty lifted. Each time they would give me a snippet of bad links as a reference, so i can go through my link profile and remove/disavow more.

Did you disavow the links those services sent you in reports?

What did the reconsideration responses say (what do you mean by denied) ?
 
301 it to a tier, correct? Not to another domain im using as a money site?

How long does it take for the penalty to transfer through the 301.

I'm curious to know as well, if I bought a used / age domain with a decent backlink profile. Is there any way to tell if it has an existing penalty? Or is that the risk you always take until you throw it in wmt?



Any tools you guys can recommend on sorting through used domain auctions? Domain Hunter Gatherer sucks.

Unfortunately that's exactly the answer, with the penalty, the site is dead. You could throw quality links worth 250K on it and it wouldn't rank...but...and that's interesting...manual penalties seem to have an expiration timer, at least in some cases. We have seen sites come back after about 2 years without reinclusion request or any active link removal after an "unnatural links" penalty. Not back to #1, since the links Google classifies as unnatural are probably devalued, but a significant jump and normal reaction to new links again.

So, in case it's a really great domain name and you have no problem with waiting and focussing on other sites in the meantime, give it a try. If not, get a new domain or find someone with real expertise on manual penalties. Removing unnatual links penalties within 2-3 weeks is pretty easy, if your reinclusion requests were denied it simply means linkdelete and linkremoval didn't do their job correctly or links that couldn't be removed weren't disavowed correctly. Getting manual penalties removed definitely isn't rocket science.
 
I would concentrate my efforts on building a new website with quality content and links. Either way it will take effort!
 
I would start from scratch. It's almost impossible to hit #1 for a competitive keyword after a manual penalty, if someone can prove me wrong on that I'd love to hear it.

Err you might wanna get in touch with support to ask what you are doing wrong because there are many people using Domain Hunter Gatherer absolutely fine with no issues on it not receiving all details.

If you are actually a user just get in touch with me via a support ticket or post in the sales thread.

If you are looking for anything else that comes anywhere close to the usability and functionality of DHG you will be sorely disappointed, I can guarantee that.
