Yes, I also got updates from gmail. That in coming days 2 step verification will be compulsory.

I have a few account which are a bit important, but I haven't logged into them for months, interesting what will happen there once I will need to log into. The phone numbers used for sign up are long gone.

This affected by google play developer account , before you can create one account for 25$ no need for phone number to be verified , now each account should get verified with phone number + gmail should get two step verification enabled .

i'm lucky because phone numbers here are really cheap.
