I strongly support using redirect method, as what you said 4 to 6 weeks or even longer to see the result, by the time when someone who click the link, the site you promoted might be gone or closed down, therefore if you are using redirect mothod, you can always modify to a new affiliate link without losing the sales, of course you need to spend time to check back your own affiliate link to ensure the site still exist.

The best the to do is to sign up for Travis's list. He'll send you to a website that tells in great detail how to do it.
The main things left out in abbygirl's post is that you try to go after long tail keywords with less than 5000 results. You use the keyword in your title and keep it at 3-7% keyword density.
What most people do is do a ezine article, link it to squidoo/hub/landing page, and then finally the sales page.

I thought ezine articles didn't allow linking to anything but a top level domain.
They allow www.domain.com but not www.domain.com/article or even article.domain.com.

Yeah, its a well known method, but its not as simple as "write a few articles with affiliate links in them"
And yeah its true with this method, it may take a while before you get enough traffic to reach "profitable" levels.
For the .htaccess redirect thing, if youre not familiar on how to do that, I guess you can just buy a domain and redirect it to your aff. link.

Ezinearticles allows linking to internal pages. No problems with that... They won't allow you to enter affiliate links in your article or bio. Even 301 re-directs are not allowed(I tried it).
