Can you make money writing short articles? You certainly can. In fact, you can even make money without a website or autoresponder. With nothing more than a computer, word processor, and an Internet connection you can make money writing articles.

The key to making money is consistency. You have to write articles every day. Each article should have between 350 and 500 words and will include a resource box with 2 or 3 links.

To begin, go to ClickBank or Commission Junction and register with them if you don't already have affiliate accounts with them. Then, visit their marketplace and select 3 or 4 popular products that are related to an area that you can write about. Make sure that the products that you select are good, high quality items that are selling well.

Write 1 - 3 articles every day related to the products that you have chosen. This sounds more difficult than it actually is. It's really pretty easy. Look for articles on the Internet that are relating to your niche, then rewrite them in your own words. Never copy another author's work, it is illegal and carries severe penalties. Get the main ideas and put them into your own words. Using this technique, you can write an article in 10 to 15 minutes.

Submit each of your articles to 5 or 10 of the largest article directories. Make sure that your articles contain 3 affiliate links in the resource box. You can use the same affiliate links with every article but change the order that they appear. Sometimes make link 1 the first link, and sometimes add it as the third. Many people will just click on the first link. By varying their placement, all of your links will be on top part of the time.

Using this technique, money may begin to trickle in after 4 - 6 weeks. However, after 6 months, you may begin to make money every week. And after a year, you could be making some very nice money almost every day.

    Good Luck!

I've been doing a lot of article marketing recently, for links/SERPS. I just reviewed one of my referrer reports in AWStats and I do not see a number of clickthroughs which would make this method reasonably profitable.

But, if you are going to try this, there is one significant improvement which I can suggest.

Don't use affiliate links in your article submissions. Use links to your own web site and then use .htaccess to redirect those into affiliate links.

    This has a few advantages:

    1. Some article sites don't allow affiliate links. This avoids detection and rejection.
    2. Readers sometimes avoid clicking on affiliate links. This improves CTR.
    3. This lets you change the affiliate program any time you want -- months or years after the articles were submitted.

i wouldn't use affiliate links at all. all you are doing is building the link authority of someone elses site. better to have the links point to your own site and pre-sell a product there or have adsense or something, then you will find the article submissions give you SERP rankings as well and most of the traffic will come from here.

Totally agree with your comment don't send direct to the affiliate site build your lists and sell lots more. Get something like ninja cloaker grab them details first and then forward them on to your affiliates site.

Articles work but only if you get rid of dupe content or they get hammered. But this is one thing most people don't realize write good articles and they get passed around and sent out by newsletters as content.

Had one article which got published by a fitness magazine and got 000's of subscribers and a good few sales.

SERP's are just part of the equation not the only equation . A good article on your blog can do better than any article directory.

Get something like Artemis Pro or Unique Article Wizard and you'll be stunned by the results.

Smells all over of bum marketing method...you're better off just signing up under Travis's mailing list. I've found lots of gems within his mailings - granted it's for newbies mainly.

Another guide you may want to combine with article marketing is Ruck's affiliate domination guide...it's great.

I just found the same bum information in a ebooklet "newbie Affilate Secrets" that i bought and paid for, the second time. It had a different title before I think.

I do not know about the .htaccess thing, but you can put a redirect one of your sites or blank page someplace to your affiliate. I think the better thing is to send them to a more info page and the link them to your affiliate site. Just my two cents worth.

When you say "redirect to your own site" what kinda of site would that be? Do you mean purchase a domain name? What about a link to a blog that has a redirect?

makes me wonder when people post threads like "how to make fast money?" or "how do i get good abs" are just harvesting content material.

I mean link to any page that you control.

You can do 301 redirects in .htaccess. These basically create a two column lookup table that says "If someone goes to a URL in the first column, send them to the corresponding URL in the second column."

    So...

In your article, you would link to http://www.yoursite.com/buy-an-ipod.html.

In your .htaccess file, you would have something like this:
    Redirect /buy-an-ipod.html http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-123456-1234567

Your link will be "displayed" in the article, but the click-throughs will go to your CJ affliliate.

Then, you can switch affiliates whenever you feel like it. Or, you can create pages on your own site and redirect the traffic there.

The point is this: KEEP YOURSELF IN THE LOOP; BUILD EQUITY IN YOUR DOMAINS.

    Uhh, where's the beef?

Seriously, that was a lot of typing to say "submit articles with your affiliate links in the resource box"... and if you just follow that plan you're doomed to poverty.

How about any insights on writing articles people will see and read? Meaning: use buying related longtail keywords your article can rank for easily.

How about some tips for writing articles that prompt reader action? Like: point out a problem, create desparation for the reader with the problem and then offer a solution (your call to action link) to the problem for the reader.

As for using affiliate links in your article submissions, if you're lucky *maybe* 1 of the 5 to 10 directories you submit to will accept them. The rest (as in any directory worth being published on) will decline your articles for having affiliate links in them.

Money may trickle in after 4 to 6 weeks? Yikes!

I'm not trying to be mean, but when I read that part about money and 4 to 6 weeks it reminded me of a saying my Grandpa used to use: If you think sex is a pain in the ass, turn around because you're doing it wrong!

If you write a good article that solves a real problem people are having (with the solution being your affiliate product) you can see conversions within hours of having your article published on a good directory, and the most active period should be the first 2 weeks after being published. From then on the traffic and conversions will trickle down to a "here and there" basis, but if you're not getting faster results than a little money trickeling in after 4 to 6 weeks then as Grandpa used to say. "turn around because you're doing it wrong".

Again, I'm not trying to be mean here, but I've been using articles for marketing online since the mid-90's and hate seeing people follow poor advice like "submit articles with your affiliate links in the resource box" and end up getting discouraged.

It takes a little more thought and planning than that to have success with, and I'm just trying to point that out.

As mentioned, Travis offers a good free course for beginners about using articles for bum marketing (someone already gave the link above), that's a great place to start.

I definitely second the notion that you don't want to be just pumping out articles without a website to promote. You are throwing away all of that linking potential!

Even if you don't want to go all out and create a website, you can do something like a wordpress blog or squidoo lens.
