This is a great method, Iv got my site up, reseller hosting/domain registration and all. I just need to gather clients now which shouldn't be hard at all though I'm afraid to put an add out due to the amount of work load I would receive. This overall though is a great idea and perfect for making some spare cash on the side.

Some Information:

I'm personally using WHMCS as my Billing System, and if you went the reseller route such as myself, you get that for free which is very nice.

I looked at numerous hosting/design sites and iv set up a few of my packages, though at the time I'm offering a "promotion" which basically states you host on my silver package and I build you a free website

I'm using eNom as my domain registration reseller and Justhost as my hosting reseller

I wish you all good luck with this method and Il try to keep you updated.

I've used BlueHost's affiliate program in the past and haven't had any problems with them paying me.

Code:
https://www.bluehost.com/cgi-bin/partner/

ditto. i to have used bluehost in the past when referring friends n stuff, they paid out fine, all was good, but, my only beef with them is the 60 day wait period to get paid!

Great method, will give it a try. I am looking at starting my offline consulting business but havent quite figured out the billing part yet.

Its an excellent Idea and I have designed my site and packages. Im about 95% done but I have begun the marketing process. 1 ad in my local news paper and some online marketing that I think will have a nice size response :). I will update my progress in a few days. Major thanks to the OP even though he/she is banned

I am doing pretty good at this, but have run into a couple ASSHOLES that want a god damn change on their site everyday even after I tell em....IAM DONE!!!!!!!
"No more!" "Stop calling me" "Dont make come to your house and punch you in the head!"

This works, but spell EVERYTHING out in writing and be SPECIFIC with these guys or you might get of my clients that bugs the hell out of you! LOL

What section of the paper did you advertise?
And where online? Craigslist?
What kind of response is "nice size"? dozens? Hundreds?

Sounds like you gave them your phone number.
Did you place your number in the ad?
Would you rather do it all by emaiL?
Also how good is "pretty good"? How many responses for an ad? Was it in the paper also?

I am curious, you guys who are doing this/ plan to do this, what about paying tax?
Is it all cash(/paypal/check) in hand?

My guess is it should go through the taxman,
Also, do potential clients ever ask are you fully registered, paying tax etc,? or they are just happy to get a site for x$ per month?

Greatly appreciate some replys on this!

(I didnt go through the whole thread yet, but searched 'tax' - no results!)

I agree with going for $25/month for hosting, though I haven't started taking orders yet (I will later this week) Has anyone else tried charging higher for hosting?

I'm thinking to start it legal also, but I'll will need a help. I actually find a way to find more then 1000 customers :)) yes, no kidding and also planing to provide small support, but I'll write everything down so no fuck around. I'll start this serious, first step it's make my own web site studioalfa :) or something like that :) If someone, serious someone want to talk or share idea with me, feel free to send me PM.

I saw the local competition and the competition is much higher than i thought. Some people were offering sites for as low as $200 with free hosting. Maybe charging $25/month for hosting won't fly!

I could see this working everyday someone ask me offline how can I get a website.

OK, so you are more going down the route of selling your design for 'major' fee, and then a 'minor' fee/yr thereafter.

I was thinking 25/month ( 300/yr). I personally prefer the 300/yr because the free site design part would be attractive I imagine, and gets payment monthly, more frequent.

But obviously there are advantages to your set up, and all depends on different factors. But I'm just going with instinct ;)

What do you(and others?) think about not paying tax / registering? I mean I'm only in college, only 20, I plan this to be a bit on the side sort of thing, not a proper business*. I highly, highly doubt I will be done for tax, they have bigger fish to fry! My biggest worry is the potential client questioning me over that, but the face to face approach may help, they will see I'm just trying to earn a little, and learn about business etc.

*(don't get me wrong, I intend to be as professional as possible, and give the best service I can)

And by the way, thank you for the informative replies, answering questions, and I'm sure there are lazy 'lurkers' who feel the same way!

You are not going to get close to 30 euro a month. You can get webhosting for 4euro a month.

I already have this business setup in Ireland and have managed to get plenty of clients and continue to do so with my business plan but i am not asking for 30euro a month. Good luck with that.

Also do yourself a favor and before you go about the tax/setting up business issues, give yourself a trial run. Contact people and see what response you get. Outside of your local area and personal contacts, you might it difficult to get clients.

hi

i am new here.
in your article you mention sign up for new website but domain registration will cost $6.00 to $9.00 right.

does hostgater offer free domain registration

My dilemma implementing a variation of this is in trying to figure out what the best way to track who completes the lead is, so that I can provide them with my service in exchange. The way I see it right now is that I need to create some sort of order/signup process where a unique and INFORMATIVE subid is appended to each users link, thus allowing me to match them up. I'm thinking the easiest would be if the subid was their "username" or "email", but I'm not sure how to achieve this.

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to PHP, but I've tried to create a form using several different WP plugins (CForms II, Contact Form 7, etc..) and then tried to call the variable using the $_GET function but I haven't been successful. Does anyone have any specific suggestions to how I can get this working and with what plugins/functions?

I charge people $10 per month for hosting. They could get it cheaper but they don't know where to go or how to do it and I will upload their files and setup their email accounts for them. Some I charge $25 to $50 for if its a large site with a lot of email accounts or I will include an hour per month to update their site and charge them more.

Most just pay their bill & never need anything so I get like 800 - 900 a month for hosting and it only costs me 34.95 for my reseller account.
hey virtualgeorge the question would be where are you finding the people that you host that know nothing about hosting so they pay you 10 bucks a month?
