I used to sell links on some of my sites to make a bit of extra money and noticed more recently that people buying for SEO purposes want only main page hardlinks, and underline 'strongly' that they do NOT want the links to be site wide.

I imagine google doesn't like seeing hundreds or thousands of links suddenly pointing to your site, but in many cases it is completely natural for bloggers to add one of their favorite links into their blogroll or sidebar. Google is always talking about how they love 'natural' backlinks and so this insistence (by seo pros) on main page only links would not seem to conform to this 'natural' way that google supposedly loves.

    Any thoughts?
