Magento vs shopify - which one would you guys recommend?

Well, both carts have their pros and cons. Shopify stores are easy to use and will be suitable for small or middle size shops. On the other hand Magento is good decision for middle or big sized shops. Moreover, if you are going abroad it would be quite difficult to find a better solution. Here is one interesting article with comparison of both carts (goo.gl/u8pi1). I would recommend you to read it in order to find out which one is better.

Why not use shopperpress? Here's a demo: http://shopperpress.com/wordpress-shopping-theme/

Do NOT be fooled, I have used every single cart system and this has beaten each and every one of them in terms of speed, customizability (since its based on a wordpress platform) not to mention the licenses allows you to do unlimited installs for a one time fee.

I have not used another shopping cart since I discovered it.

Do you know if you can use ShopperPress as a 3rd party shopping cart on my site with PayPal as the payments option? thanks

Magento is awesome, just outsource installation and setup to any freelancer like me :D

Never developed shopify stores so can't comment about it :)

I've tried prestashop it's kind of new. Took some time to learn, but its a excellent eCommerce content manger.

its all about Magento CE (community edition) as Magento Go is a complete waste of time. Downfall = server load.. Solution = run on VPS with latest version of Plesk so that Standard Default Nginx Reverse Proxy is running

I agree, Magento CE is the most powerful free shopping cart out there.

I think Shopify is a good platform to get started selling online, while Magento is a better long-term investment overall. With Shopify, you can set up your website with ease, list products in a matter of minutes, manage orders, track sales, list discounts, communicate with customers, achieve high search engine rankings, and implement a product rating system. Magento, on the other hand, is a bit trickier to assess.

Thanks !! :)

for me i recommend shopify cause there is not much technicality on it, just my opinion.

One of my major competitors users Shopify. Customers seem to be drawn to the simple layout and user compatibility. Our monthly income is about neck-and-neck despite the fact that my eCommerce site is much more complex than his. Shopify might be the way to go.

I've been using magento community since my first estore. Themes are kind of pricey, but I do not like hosting where I do not have access to the server or WHM, which is why I chose magento. I could upload it to a VPS and get going.

The learning curve for magento was really not that bad, GSA was much harder to learn than Magento is :P I keep my themes very simple (and responsive), and I like the fact that wordpress integrates seamlessly with magento (for free).

Magento is perfect, more and more people are migrating to Magento, you can find highly optimized and reliable Magento extensions from trusted developers like fmeextensions.com, fmeaddons.com.

Lots of different opinions here. What do you guys recommend when it comes to non-english ecommerce sites?

Neither really since I would recommend woocommerce.

Definitely go with Magento because their back end control panel is
excellent and comes with a built in affiliate marketing set up which
will prove itself useful for promoting your websites products.

Agree with DarkCosmos. Being a developer, I feel magento has the upper hand on most eCommerce platforms and provides a huge list of features and extensions. It is one time solution of your eCommerce Store.

Thanks !! :)
