Love Reading Through Shit List Threads

Does anyone else often find themselves aimlessly scrolling through shit list threads? I recently started reading them and it seems the more of them I go through the harder it is to stop. I'm just nosey I guess so to have endless threads of buyer/seller drama to go through is an awesome way to pass the time. Anyone else agree or am I just weird? :D

lol I do! few days ago I spent like 2 hours cruising around. Its interesting and educating all together.
 
The MOD's on there do an amazing job. They have the patience of a saint with some of the arguments on the SL.

I honestly don't know how they do it. Dedication for sure!

It is not a fun aspect of what we do but it is needed and we do our best to do it in a dispassionate manner.

You may see one staff member in the thread but I almost always rely on the counsel of others when I mediate a SL and more often than not it is @MisterF unless it is technical and then I reach out to @jazzc or @davids355.

It often takes a neighborhood to get things under control there even if the neighbors involved don't poke their heads out the window.

There was a time very early on in BHW's life (before Damien purchased the forum) where things were very much "Wild West". The previous owner, Dave, handed most of the control over to someone by the name of @HaRRo, who took "executive privilege" of sorts and filled Executive VIP and high-ranking positions with his buddies.

When Damien bought the place I believe he booted him from the board completely, but back when he reigned supreme there were a ton of shitlists of Executive VIPs and moderators.

An example? Whenever I wonder why mentoring is not allowed on BHW, I look back at this 11+ year old shitlist thread:

Mentoring "course" that was $400 and backed by almost a dozen current and former executive VIP's goes to shit.

Another example? A better one, you ask? Okay.

There was a member back in 2008-2009 named https://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/members/5657-madinaz.html. Judging by threads such as https://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/blackhat-lounge/115019-enough-flaming.html#post1058460 he was a mod as well in his later time on the boards.

In August 2009 he posted https://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/blackhat-lounge/111440-thank-you-bhw.html thread. It had long been known that he was going through cancer or something similar. Relatively confirmed in https://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/blackhat-lounge/111440-thank-you-bhw-post1028408.html#post1028408 post in the thread (also https://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/blackhat-lounge/72078-i-am-going-die-not-joke-not-video-seriously-3.html#post685613 post).

In late September that same year a thread titled https://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/blackhat-lounge/122041-madinaz.html popped up, along with a random blog called https://rip-madinaz.blogspot.com/.

A couple weeks later, this happens:

Most people don't believe the new member. But then Pofecker (who a year or so later actually did die), posted this:

Anyone that talks to me privately knows how I feel about this. I didn't think anyone would question it, so I was ready to let it go. But since this popped up, I'll just say what I know.

Mad lied to the Executive VIPs about something big and it was verified false by a large company's legal department. Since the lie was so big, many of us did some backtracking and found several inconsistencies with his previous actions/stories.

Being a staff member here is the ultimate in trust, so I asked him straight out to talk to me about it. He ignored my message, continued to log in to BHW and told a different staff member that he would set the record straight, whatever it takes. (I read the PM's). He didn't, so I took his moderator status away. I then sent him another message and stated to get it back, he would have to talk to me. He continued to ignore me, so I took his Executive VIP away. Few days past and I banned him, then he 'dies'.

I won't go into detail, but so many things didn't add up. If he really died, then God rest his soul. If he didn't, he soon will from being that overweight.

This is the internet and anything is possible.

He faked his own death and ran off with a good bit of coin. It looks like scamming from high-level members was a very common occurrence before HaRRo was ousted and Damien bought the site. It sure isn't the Wild West any more here on BHW.

What is seen by the members is only a fraction of the numbers of Shitlists submitted. A lot of these aren't even pertaining to BHW.

Those which are to do with BHW are often resolved before the SL is made live.

The remaining ones which are made live are often broken down into 3 types.

1) Someone bought from a guy who wasn't supposed to be selling, they got scammed. The new member made an easy $500 and has gone. 100% of these would be avoided if people did not buy from regular members FACT!

2) Someone bought from a seller who failed to deliver or didn't deliver what was expected and instead of resolving this made the buyer go down the SL route.

3) A buyer has work done then disputes it via a fraudulent chargeback, this scamming a seller.

Some SLs are easy to moderate, it's common sense that needs to be applied by the buyer or the seller.
Others are actually quite stressful, as you're dealing with someones livelihood at times.

When Mat used to handle these he was YoungSalt, it was only doing SLs that turned him into OldSalt.
Joking aside, most of these could be dealt with by mutal resolution before a SL thread is made live.

I love reading SL's too; specially those where either buyer or seller gets permabanned :) :D

I don't really look at that section of the forum, as I usually have better things to do.

However.. when I run into a shitlist thread on the homepage and open it, almost always I read from start to finish... and then if it's not resolved/finished I wish there was more :D

So yeah, the shitlist threads are pretty awesome usually haha
