Lost positions when change http to https

According to the latest news on SEO I've read, Google is favoring sites that use https, so I bought a Godaddy SSL certificate for my web to run under https, however, just as googlebot indexed my site again, I lost all my rankings in the SERPS.
Is it possible that this change from http to https domain constitutes a change? How could haver lost my positions just to switch to https?

Some facts:
I used rel="canonical" pointing to https
I used htaccess to redirect entire site from http to https

Now i'm back to http waiting for some answers

Yes, it is normal when doing such a change to loose positions for some time and probably you will get them back after few weeks..

Seconded, when we did a whole site remodel, our site fell down in rankings for 2-3 weeks, then we came back better then before after the time. Wait a couple of weeks, you should see some improvements.

What's the point of HTTPS on pages other than login pages and checkout pages? If there is no sensitive data being transferred then it's being encrypted for no reason.
