lost my #1 sites

My site does not have duplicate content, black hat or anything...

Why it has been penalized?

too much adsense?

link scheme? it's part of a netwrok...

I've heard that there was a minor Panda update performed yesterday; that may have had something to do with it...

We dropped on the 19th... from top half of the 1st page to a Google dance between position 500 and 700 (just bouncing). Inner pages currently rank higher than frontpage, but dropped also from first pages to positions between 100 and 300...

We have 100% unique (well written) content (all in Dutch) and publish 5 new posts / week; most of the top10 pages for my main keyword are taken by link-directories (isn't panda supposed to downgrade those??) en a wikipedia page (which contains a link to my front page with the main keyword for anchor).

Backlinks mostly Scrapebox and Senukex, so my best guess is that those could be devaluated... at the moment started to build new backlinks with Bookmark Demon and Dripable...

I don't believe all this "update your site with quality content" stuff. I was doing great with a blog with quality unique updates and when I finally outranked my competitors my site dropped to page 6-7 as well as the subpages. And what do the sites on page one look like? All crappy static 2-3 page html pages, no updates whatsoever and with poor on and off site seo and I never see them drop in rankings. The only thing most of them have on me is an emd and domain age. I'm thinking of buying aged domains, using html instead of wordpress, and trying to outrank the competitors with beter on and off site seo.

What I have noticed with these Panda updates. It looks to me that they move the sites that they want to keep off of page 2 and sometimes page 1 and bring up all the crap sites. Then after 3 weeks or so the crap sites disappear and the good sites move back to their original position or better. I had this happen to me 3 times already.

1. Continue adding content
2. Continue linking, get a couple high pr links
3. Add Web 2.0 sites
3. Keep doing what you are doing don't stop.

These are my observations of crap sites

1. Affiliate links all over the place
2. Sites that have less than 10 pages and are not consistently added to
3. Articles don't make sense (spun)
4. Spammy crappy links, many blog posts with pr n/a or 0 with hundreds of comments.
5. Links not varied enough, articles, blogs, forum, directory, bookmarks, web 2.0 etc...

Take a look at the sites that have replaced yours and check each one.

It's a manual penalty. You will not get out of it by building new links or content.
As far as i remember you are italian and i can tell you that this kind of penalty is very common on google.it.

You say you have done nothing with them well that is the problem. Sites need to be updated with new content or it's easy to lose your rankings.

How often do you think a site needs to get updated content to keep ranking?

This is your problem. A site that don't get new content and/or new links will loose it's position.

This is not always true . It always depends on what your competitors are doing.
If they haven;t done anything all the year too than no position changes should have been happened to op's site

What should I do?

Have you something to suggest?

I do not update my site very offen. But I am still 2 in google search

I suppose I have a manual penalization.

Many sites have stolen my article, what I should do?

Should I remove all the links between my niche sites? they are relevant and in the same macroargument
