So yeah, the title says everything.
(ps: idk if this is in the right section, if not i'm sorry)
I've been a follower of this forum for quite a while now, and I see a lot of good opinions in here so that's why I'm "exposing" myself now... I need honest opinions.

Last month I dropped out of uni, I was studying Radiography and honestly I hated it. Idk why I joined the course in first place but yeah. Now I'm stuck.

1st choice -> I can enter Uni next year again but in a Business course, I think I would like, but then when I start thinking... I really like the Business part of things etc, but I never created something or won money from something I did. I do have some good ideas but I never know how and where to start, oh and I don't have the money.

2nd choice -> Enter a Programming Bootcamp in Portugal for 14 weeks and don't go to the uni. Never programmed but I'm really intrigued to do it. I just don't know where to start and how again. The downside of this bootcamp is, it cost 6000eur... I don't know if it's worth wasting that amount of money...

3rd choice -> Cry in the corner until someone slaps me in the face and I wake up being rich.

I just don't know what to do, or what I would like to pursue for life...

Thanks to all in advance.

You can learn to programme without any boot camp. And that 14 weeks Bootcamp will not make you employable.
Just head over to any one of thousands of free/low-cost online resources.
Visual learner? - Youtube, Lynda, pluralsight
Learning by doing? - https://www.freecodecamp.org/

Now, is programming the way to go for you? I don't know.
What are your future plans? if working in a "software company" this won't work. As most companies look for degree holders.
But if you want to do freelance or do your own stuff, learning programming this way is totally worth it.

If you are looking for the safest plan? Re-entering uni is.

Good luck.

Nothing in this life lasts forever. My advice would be for you to stop overthinking and make sure to at least get a degree. At the moment you’re in the position to get one, and there’s a ton of people who would like to switch positions just because of this simple fact.

What degree or path is really up to you. Think about what your strengths are and not so much what interests you. I.e. programming might be something you’re interested in, but if it takes 3 months to grasp the concept of what Lambdas are and when to use them, you’re waisting time on Uni and probably end up in a year time posting another thread.

My biggest gripe with the “no need to get a degree” scene is that they don’t understand that any degree you’ve acquired shows that you’re able to grasp a concept at that specific level, think about it, solve the problem within the set timeframe and then got on with the next task you need to accomplish. Rinse and repeat, until you finally get that degree. Sounds just like real life, don’t it?

I wouldn't recommend you to pay 6000€ for programming camp. You can learn everything by yourself online. Also, you won't learn EVERYTHING about programming in those 14 weeks, you just won't. You need to practice programming every day to develop the mindset for it. I used to go to a programming college and I've quit after 6 months because I realised that wasn't it for me. My roommate studied 12+ hours per day and right now he's crushing it at college. He has straight A's at programming, not because he learned something in class, but because he practiced every single day by himself. Taking a course at football doesn't mean that you will become a professional football player,it's all about the process and practice. I'd advise you to take your time and start learning programming by yourself. Don't wait for someone to slap you because you will never wake up being rich without the hard work (unelss you're son of a billionaire/millionaire). Keep grinding. I wish you best of luck!

Thank you for your answer! I'm going to try both methods but I think I learn by doing, do you have any youtube channel you can recommend?

Yeah I get what you're saying. One thing at the time, I need to find my strengths first and then choose a degree.
Thank you so much!

Depends what you want out of life. Radiography isn't going to make you rich, but it's a job that you should be safe in, working in the medical field. Plus the competition won't be as fierce as most trades.
Programming can make you money, but you're competing with thousands of others all looking to make good money.
Think about what interests you, what you would enjoy both learning and working at.

Hi,

I'm super lost in life too. I'm currently doing Uni but think about dropping out every week.

Programming is hard - the hobby itself isn't the best, it's not technically creative, and can get very repetitive and tiring.

This is why many programmers end up being monotone and boring, they get used to a repetitive life with no intrigue to it.

In fact, I donated to a live streamer asking for help 30 minutes ago (saying I was lost), and his reply was actually super wholesome. I'll leave it here in case it helps you, I'm definitely following his advice.

Since I have spare time, I think I'll take some time learning code for now and see how it goes. Thank you so much!

Thank you !

that enough for you? i have 100 more :p

Edit: just pick one and dive in.

wow! that's way more than I expected ^^
thank you so much, I hope I'll talk to you later and return the favour !

Anyone who doesn't encourage you to get a degree doesn't really care about you.
It's always great to have a plan B. Stay strong.

I'd recommend getting into meditation so you can quiet your mind and find your true desires in life and to know where to start. Journalling, affirmations, visualization, exercise, and reading can help too.

Do something you like that makes money.
If you don't know what you like then do something that you think you can do it easily.
Learn about it and enjoy yourself.
The greatest blessing will come when we do something we love.
Money will come by itself.

Become a dropout sucessful milionaire like everyone else, who needs education when you can make it without it like Bill Gates for example.

hi OP ill just share my two cents worth here, maybe you can just give sometime off to yourself like go somewhere far outside of your comfort zone, try to organize your thoughts and what you really want in life, explore new things.. seems you are still young... if you do something you are good at... that will be your 1st move... go on from there.... this is only life.. no one gets out alive :)

ps : if you need someone to talk you can freely pm me... goodluck to your journey

Hi! I would really appreciate someone to talk, I can't pm you tho..

I would say go back to uni and finish the radiography as you already started it, think about the fixed and guaranteed income you will get from it, here in US this field is hot and they do make like $22-40/ hr. Now thats been said you can enjoy learning programing for free like hows they advised you already, youtube or whatever, you can enjoy doing it and then later once you finish the uni you will see where you need to go, at least you won't lose years from your life thinking about what if .... finish the uni, forget the stupid $6000 Euro course, and get armed with your uni degree whether you hate it, like it whatever and then watch free courses about coding/ programing until you die LOL. You are young, try to do as much as you can, arm yourself with all weapons BUT NEVER SKIP UNI, PERIOD!

so sorry to hear that you need at least 15 post here in BHW forum to enable your private messaging...

dont worry ill be here anytime... :)

1st choice is the best.

If you get some free time, start to learn programming online. Tons of free resources.

your going through what most people went through in life its called quarter life crisis, i had a similar problem 3 years ago when i graduated in a field recommended by my parent, close to graduating i really hated my major. all i could think of was 'MBA' for my masters , upon graduating i started studying MBA because i know there is no way i will study what i dont enjoy anymore in other words i have lost passion for it, read this book 'the power of your unconscious mind' it helps me a lot in making a decision, dont let your self feel lost or depressed over it. always stick to what you prefare doing and enjoying, in the end even if you started working as a proffessional and made a ton of money but hate going to work everyday you will hate it. no one can tell you what to do or which major to pursue we can only give an input of advice to help guide you i hope you find your path and be happy,
