What would you guys think of a diet plan, that consists nothing but eating chocolate cake/brownies for the most part.I found that if you substitute protein powder for flour you can do such that.

I just made some chocolate protein pancakes to see if it would be somewhat ok,and for what I had there actually alot better then I expected. I only used cheap vanilla whey and added pure chocolate to it and didn't use any eggs or a substitute for an egg.

Next week I'm going to get some good chocolate whey, and some baking stuff, and go on low carb/high protein diet for a week or two.

Is your protein powder very low carb? If it's artificially sweetened it might be okay.

I'm on a low carb diet and I do try to avoid baked goods, though there are a few snacks I like. Those include cheese slices or mozzarella sticks, salted roasted almonds, peanut butter (with celery usually), sugar-free pudding, and pepperoni.

But on the topic of baked goods one can actually make some passable pancakes with just eggs, cream cheese, cinnamon and sweetener. Check out http://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/2012/01/cream-cheese-pancakes.html
Some people also use almond flour/almond meal/flax meal/coconut flour for baking/breading/etc and I haven't tried any of those, but they are relatively low carb.

the protein powder I have now only has 8 grams of carbs per serving, idk if thats low or not. I'll try to get one with lower amount next week. Compared to flour its 1/5 the amount of carbs.

Chocolate whey rocks. You can make your own Carnation Instant breakfast - Google it.

I made some awesome low calorie chocolate cookies yesterday. And talk about fast and easy...

1/2 box of choc cake mix
    2 eggs
pinch of baking powder (1/4 teas)
    ____________________
drop by spoonfuls on baking sheet and bake. About 10 min. If you can smell them baking, they are ready. I made this recipe up and it worked out great.

That's it ---NO added oil - Nada

Thanks for an interesting thread, Repar -

Repar, I do see several recipe sources for protein chocolate cakes and brownies online and boy, do they look good. Don't use soy protein powder. It tastes bitter.

My concern is the cost of the whey protein powder. Mine is around $60.00 in a gallon type plastic jar. I buy it at Rite Aid Pharmacy.

Almond flour is wonderful but it is really expensive so forget that. It is $14.00 for 16 oz at my grocery store. I think the nut flours are mostly for people that have stomach/digestive problems like IBS.

I have a recipe for ice cream made from white navy beans. Haven't tried it. LOL. I hear that black bean brownies are terrific.

If you're following a diet where you try to go into ketosis (ie burning fat for fuel) then you're recommended to start off with less than 20g carbs a day and after a few weeks move up to a maximum 50g a day and experiment if you like after that.

That said, we each have a different resistance to insulin and an amount of carbs we can consume without gaining weight so it's kinda up to you. I wouldn't try to lose weight on protein powder cake but you never know, it might work.

If you're used to eating baked goods and prepared foods then it can be hard, but if you can cook (or learn to cook following recipes) it's not really difficult.

EDIT: I don't know if you saw the news article about eating cake for breakfast and that put you on to this idea, but this thread certainly reminded me of it: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/h...ake-breakfast-could-help-you-lose-weight.html

I just started a high protein diet yesterday. Today I had 97 grams of protein, so almost twice as much as a normal diet at 2000 calories. Add to the fact that it's 1100-1400 calories a day, and it'd make it even more intense.

The break down is 40-45% calories from protein, 30-35% from carbs and 20-25% from fats. The massive amount of protein is so that the body doesn't eat the muscle since it's easier to get calories from than stored fat (or something like that). I don't know. I'm already feeling like I'm low on sugar. I'm used to drinking soda, so switching to just water is the hardest part. I don't think you're doing this for your weight though, I just thought I'd chime in. Protein is good for the body, but if you start eating an insane amount of it, your body won't even digest it. It'd have to be a massive amount though. I can't remember what my Dad told me (he's into body building). I think he said something like 400 grams a day?

I went from 250lbs to 175lbs last year. I went vegetarian/fruitarian. You can eat as much as you want and the weight just peels off. It does take a lot of discipline though, you have to just tell yourself that you are sticking with it and never question that fact. I only started eating meat again (usually ground turkey only) when I was about to go too far in the OTHER direction (too skinny). A pressure cooker and some rice stir fry recipes will help you a lot, they are tasty and NOTHING beats a pressure cooker for awesome rice.

@Marusia - A big part of my permanent diet change overall is drinking water instead of anything else. I used to drink sweetened tea like there was no tomorrow and, though I have never calculated how many calories were in it, I know it was massive. Make yourself get used to the water, it doesn't take long to and you will not even think about it after a little while. I even order water in restaurants now because I just prefer it. The biggest part of my "dieting" has been just learning how to be healthier in general.

Now that I am back to my high school weight I exercise regularly (it's a lot easier without the extra baggage) and my weight is easy to maintain. Mostly my exercise is in the form of bike riding. Tons of fun :) My metabolism is higher over-all now so I don't have to watch it as much. I do still weigh myself every day just to get a status update.

One word of warning to someone trying to lose weight: the scales can really get you down if you don't understand that you are never "at" a particular weight, but are moreso in a range. My personal weight range is about 8 pounds wide or something like that. Don't get discouraged by the scales.

After writing this I looked back up the thread and realized the OP may not be dieting but more like body building, but I will post this anyway in case I said one single useful thing for someone. I mean, it's already typed in and everything so... :D

Not a good plan Roparadise, especially if your pancakes have wheat in them. Gluten (opiate), caffeine, and dairy (opiate) are all drugs. I hope people realize this one day. Use a blender and blend a lot of fruits and vegetables. The fiber will make you full. It depends how much weight you want to lose too.

Sure you might be able to loose weight if you exercise too, but you're going to be unhealthy as fuck and feel like shit and plus, you won't have the energy to exercise lol.

I think this "diet" is a terrible idea. For one, cakes and brownies are made with sugar which is definitely not low-carb like what you're going for.

It also lacks any sort of nutrition from what I see. Where are your fruits and vegetables coming in? How about your fiber?

If you want to do high protein and low carb, there's a lot more efficient ways to do it than this.

seems like an interesting recipe..Just wondering if baking would actually cause the amino acids in whey to be destroyed. I have always been told its better to boil egg than have it fried..because of the same principle..so asked

I've looked at in on bodybuidling forms and its just the shape of the proteins that changes when they are baked, not the amino acids being destroyed.

I love this! I have an aversion to wheat in particular so I'm going to be trying out some recipes with protein powder. Have you tried to make the whey powder rise in cakes? Or were your pancakes just flat instead of fluffy like wheat pancakes?
