Looking for members to start a private backlink network

I already created a post in the JV section but it really does apply to this forum as well. I won't duplicate the whole thing but I'll provide a quick summary of it and a link to the full post in the JV section for those who are interested:

Summary

I'm looking to find a handful of site owners with at least 3-4 established, quality sites to join a group of other similar site owners for the purpose of trading links from our sites to those of other member sites. This would be done in a way that maintains a high level of privacy from each other while still allowing us to propose trades with detailed info.

We each put a very small amount of effort into starting and maintaining the group and in exchange, we get high quality back links to our sites at no cost and without leaving footprints.

Sounds like FBN...which is already established....
 
What I'm proposing is very much like FBN but completely private to the members, no restrictions (outside of basic, sensible ground rules) on what arrangements are made between members and you don't run into the risk of possible N-way linking when you link to a site in your network that links to a site in another network which then links back to your site or another of your sites via another network.

That last part can be avoided if everyone in your network never joins other networks but FBN makes it very easy to be in as many as 100 networks with others who can do the same. You have the potential for a lot of inbreeding between these networks.

FBN doesn't seem to have any checks for this sort of thing (correct me if I'm wrong) and this type of linking is easy for search engines to sniff out.

I'm just trying to see if there's a better way to do this albeit with a bit more work for those involved and on a smaller scale but in exchange, you gain flexibility and possibly less risk.
 
Another two issues I see with FBN are:

1. They're a paid service. Their focus is to get as many people using their service as possible, that's how they make money. They don't have the same skin in the game as the people using it which are trusting their high value sites to them.

2. The more people that use it, the more it becomes something for Google to address, the more people look to game the system, the more low quality sites get thrown into the mix and you're spending more and more time digging through the junk (think Flippa) and the bigger a target it becomes for hackers.

Not knocking FBN, I think it's pretty good for what it is but just tossing out some things that could be or become real issues.

As as member of FBN, let me address both.

1. True.

2. Well, that's the point of multiple networks within the platform. I do worry a bit that Google will target it one day just to target it, even if it's not really worth their time.

As for it getting hacked, forget about it. The admin is an absolute scrooge when it comes to security and people gaming the system. Almost to the point that it makes it challenging for legitimate members, which is by far my biggest caveat.
 
This is dangerous. Private networks are intended to be private. Why waste your time on a network only to risk it being exposed.
 
I have some established websites and would be willing to do link exchange . Can be 3 way or 2 way whatever works between us . PM me . Lets get things started
 
I think it will be a good idea to get together on skype and go over ideas. About 80 websites are under my account. All are business websites. Most if them on different hostings and ips. Lets see where we can start...
And i wanted to kno also. Fbn stands for...?
 
FBN is FightBackNetworks. A site that lets you create networks of sites that cross publish articles/posts and invite others to join it either through their site through your own private means or both.
 
I'm not sure if you're referring to my idea or FBN but either way, you're correct and what I had in mind would be a private network. That being said, you have to start somewhere in gaining members for it and unless you personally know a lot of people offline who have lots of sites and do internet marketing (which I don't), you'll need to reach out to others somehow.

Beyond this initial request for interested parties, I won't be publicizing it and once we have a core group (if this works out), I think it would be best to no longer take on new members from people responding to this thread.
 
Thanks for your feedback as a user of FBN. Would love to hear what kind of results you've gotten from using it.

If it's locked down security wise like you say then I having the site hacked and info exposed might not be much of a likelihood. I was just throwing out what possible issues came to mind.

Good to know the owner takes security seriously which for something like this would be very important. Care to elaborate on how you find their restrictions to be a challenge to legit members? You can PM me if you prefer. I'd appreciate your insight.
 
I also want to join this network, as I have 50+ PR 1-8 websites.
