Getting quality, natural looking backlinks is still one of the biggest pains in search marketing and SEO.

The sites I build are mid to long term investments so I don't use low quality sources of backlinks. I've been using my own sites as the primary source of backlinks for a while now, being very selective of how I link them so they seem natural and keeping my sites on various hosts and masking other ownership footprints. This adds extra time, cost and complexity but is worth it in the long term.

So what's my point?

I want to make this less of a pain and less time consuming by establishing a small group of site owners who will provide backlinks to each other. This will make it much easier for all members in the group to gain quality backlinks from a diverse array of sites without cost and with very little effort.

This would very much be a quality over quantity arrangement and measures would be taken to reveal as little information to each other as possible to maintain privacy. This isn't for getting a ton of links to your auto blog, spun content, Amazon store builder or 3 page WP niche sites. These would be decent quality sites linking to each other.

The initial stipulations will be:

  • Only quality sites. This doesn't mean they have to be well established already but they have to have quality content and existing backlinks have to be from good sources. I won't go into all the details here as I think you know what I mean.
  • Basic rules of linking will be established but in the end, each member has complete control over what sites they chose to include, what sites they link to, how they link to them and for how long.
  • All members would have to meet a required minimum level of participation after a certain amount of time (all to be determined). This allows members to test the waters at first but ultimately have a somewhat proportional amount of skin in the game. This helps keep each other honest and ensure that everyone is contributing a fair amount.
  • The idea here is to keep it fairly small. Better to have fewer members and grow the number of sites we put into the pool slowly than take on more and more members. This will sacrifice the total availability of potential backlinks in exchange for maintaining higher quality, less administrative overhead and minimizing exposure to undesirables.

This is still a very rough idea but anyone who is interested, PM me and we'll get a dialog going with those who are interested.

Also, if you have any feedback on why you think something like this would or wouldn't work or why you would or wouldn't be interested, please share.

I'd love the feedback to refine the idea and hear what things people would want from something like this and what concerns they would have.

I've gotten a couple of interested site owners so far. I'm looking for 5-6 to get this rolling although I'll move forward with it if I've got at least 3.

Any comments on why so few are interested on BHW? I'm wondering if perhaps some of you have concerns about why this wouldn't work or otherwise. If so, please share as I think we could successfully address them.
