I am using Video Spin Blaster to create videos from still images of various sizes.

The problem is this: Suppose one wants to do a video that is 640px wide and 360 high. If a photo has roughly those dimensions, it will be ok. If the photo is very narrow, it will be inflated in width, and look very ugly.

So what I want to do is run a batch image processing that will turn the pictures into the same size. But if the image is narrow, it should just put the image in the middle, and put black borders around. Most batch image programs I have tried do not work like this. I prefer a tool that runs in Linux, but Windows XP is also ok.

you can probably do this with batch automation in photoshop.

get it to sort them by image size into folders first of all.

then make a batch for images that need to be centered, and make a batch for images that need to be resized.

Anything else than Photoshop to handle this? Don't fancy downloading hundreds of MB just to do this simple task.

Search in GOOGLE or go to some professional open source sites to get such image processing software.

you can try Advanced Batch Image Converter, that would work pretty well.

I don't think there is a tool/app available out there that is built to the specifications you have mentioned. Manually editing these photos in photoshop may be time consuming. Depending on what your end-goal is, this may defeat the purpose, or at the very least hamper productivity.

From here you have several options.

1. Build the tool by automating it (needs development know how)
2. If it's something that needs an actual person to think about the task before executing, a VA will be a good solution.
3. If it can be automated (I'm not sure if it can - eg can a computer detect if an image is too stretched for a human eye?) and you don't have the technical expertise to do so, try outsourcing to sites like upwork.

it is for things like this I had started learning python.

have an abandoned journey thread on python I should get back to.

on linux, you can try imagemagick (cli) or phatch (gui). have not personally used them, but worth checking out

Did you even look at the thread start date? It's almost 5 yrs since OP posted this thread!
