Looking for advice on SEO strategy

Hi,
I had created Amazon affiliate blog 1.5 months ago.
Got domain on 20th December and added first article on 21st December. The KW was easy and I was in top 100 after 2 weeks I think. Couple of days later, it settled down at #43.
Added another article on 31st December and it was within top 100 in under a week. It was at position #65.

Now, for link building I just had 5-6 profile backlinks for homepage, thats it.
So, I added one guest post from highly related niche site with DA35 and 150 RDs and used random anchor text. This was linked to post 1. After the link got indexed, my first article got boosted and moved to position #11. However, next day, it went back to its original position i.e. #43. On-Page is optimised well. Is it normal to have temporary boost? Do I need to wait to see effects to kick in? Its 2 weeks already since I added this link. So, the KW didn't move a bit.

For second article, I added one more guest post from DA25 blog with exact match KW anchor. The page shooted up at position #40 initially but it dropped again to #109 (Out of page 10 !)
What could be other thing that I can try out? Or am I missing something? Should I wait for site to age down? Cos this KW is very easy and first page results are not targeting the keyword directly.

I think the exact match anchor is the culprit, over optimising the page. I have added web 2 link with random anchor to dilute anchor, maybe that could help?

Times of targeting an exact long tail with 1 page websites and hoping to rank are long gone, just like my youth. Any bigger site that at least somewhat remotely mentions parts of your keywords will outrank you based on authority only. It's not 2012 anymore.

What is the culprit is the complete lack of everything. You have 2 page website if I understood everything correctly. You have basically 0 offsite SEO done. Your site is not even an embryo at this point, so do not expect it to rank anywhere anytime soon.

Not to mention that people have a very bad perception of what an easy keyword really is.

if nargil is right then you have lots of work to do, and yea it’s very difficult to agree on a common measure for easy keywords

I would suggest create more content, at least you cover the most of the topics. Then do the basic link building for homepage to create some authority and wait for three to four months. walk step by step, first give a social signal to your post, then build some links to your inner pages. Before that learn about anchor text ratio and how they work.

I suggest you search for these in the forum,read them and make your own strategy.Without the .pdf

It's very Normal as your website is new. Google takes 2-6 Months even more time for new websites to give best ranking in SERP. Don't give up. Keep writing high quality content.

@melvinseo - all kidding aside, look into niche related backlinks from PBNs. Be ready to spend some good money for those high solid PBNs. cheap ones will not help you much
