Logic Bombs?

ok thanks guys, ill keep checking back here for a few more days and see if anyone else has ideas, but for now im gonnna get to work on this.

thanks!

I think if you are that worried, you should give up now.

You gotta be prepared to do jail time, else don't do it.

Eraser has a disk creation utility that is called Nuke Disc. It creates a self booting cd-rom which overwrites a drive up to 35 times. Obviously this would take ages and be fucking obvious, but perhaps the image created for the CD could be in some way booted in the background on the other hard drive (if you run the earlier scenario with GRUB or LILO). Although i suspect you'd really want that drive encrypted as well, just in case, but it's certainly a proper cleaning solution.

funny thread - I can see there are more paranoid people here hanging around :)

Luckly I don't live in the States so I'm not too concerned. It's just something I've occasionally thought about.
My gov't doesn't really care that much about the stuff I'm doing, and they don't have the resources to do so either.

But if I were to live in the US, I'd probably be a bit paranoid, tbh. The Pentagon has over 25% the annual budget at it's disposal, in my country the military has maybe 5%. There's alot you can do with $540 billion, infact I think you'd run out of things to do pretty quick with that kind of cash. Although I have a feeling they're gonna be seeing less of that money in the future.

In Amsterdam is forbidden to put tobacco in joint when in coffee shop-crazy!,but being paranoid cause you have some free stuff-is way beyond,BUT- if you collect some pics of children..... -than i suggest TNT-with short quick fuse

Just a little info here about encryption. EVERYTHING that is currently available for encryption on the internet or in stores has either a backdoor or the manufacturer has personally given the government an easy method to bypass the encryption extremely fast. Encryption only keeps the normal people out.

The us government classifies Encryption tools as Munitions (Weapons). If it is not backdoored or an easy workaround is given to the government prior to release, they will throw your ass in prison for unlawful exportation of munitions. Don't beleive me? Do some research. There was one guy who developed a program that they couldn't crack years ago and he would up in the hokey for releasing it on the net.

The forensic analysis team is pretty thorough and if there is anything on the drive or drives, it will be found and decrypted.

There is absolutely no way to leave something intact during a raid and think that it will not be found.

With that being said, I believe that the best way to make your data unrecoverable would be to buy the following:

Kingston 64 gb usb flash drive ($80)
A heavy duty usb extension
two 30 amp extension cords
Two high capacity on off switches
two 50+ amp circut breakers
soldering iron and solder

Now, if you remove your hard drive completely from your pc and set it to boot from the usb stick, then you have eliminated the pesky hard drive and any chance of data recovery from it.

In theory, you can disect the end of the usb extension cable where the usb drive plugs in. Then take your extension cords and strip the ends off of them. Solder + and - of each extension cord into the connector (leaving original connections intact). There are only 5 connections on a usb, so you can hit 4 out of 5 with some juice. Now, plug each cord into the switches and place them on different circuts in your house. Replace those circuts breakers with the 50 amp ones. Place the switches right next to your keyboard for fast access and have the pc side of the usb extension where you can pull it out qiuckly.

This way, if someone pays you a visit, you could pull the extension from your pc quickly and then hit the switches (less than 1 second).

It is still possible that data could be recovered from this afterward, but I seriously, seriously doubt it. There is no way that the little circutry inside the usb can handle two different direct shorts of 50 amps each.

If data could be recovered, it would be extremely expensive to recover, very time consuming and I am sure that only a minute percentage of data would be recoverable.

At least this way, you wont get an extra charge of creating an incendiary device added to the list. You will still get the evidence charge though...

In regards to this, if they come pay you a visit, chances are that they already have more than enough to nail you to a cross and castrate you. Either that or they can't get anywhere with conventional means, which is highly doubtful. The problem is that they can monitor you and your actions remotely, because microsoft and others all provide easy backdoors for their spyware programs, like cipav.

Also, keep in mind that they will usually visit around 4-5:30am when your ass is in bed to prevent any issues.

Unless you are making 100k+ a month doing this, find a better way to earn that doesn't draw as much heat, unless prison food appeals to you.

I cannot see any men in black appearing too soon here in th UK - after all 95% of our members or parliment are on the take cooking there own books

And freeware programs like truecrypt are also backdoored?!

iglow

OF COURSE!!!! if they weren't easily circumvented, they would not be available for mass export

hxxp://www.bis.doc.gov/encryption/guidance.htm

This is what you have to go through in order to "export" encryption software with keys more than 56 bit or 512 bit for rsa encryption.

They get 30 days to "review" it. Chances are if they can't find an easy way to defeat it, you will not be approved for export without a compromise (ie: Backdoor)

Export means making it publicly available on the internet. However, printed source code (NOT A PROGRAM) has been ruled to be protected under freedom of speech and therefore does not apply.

what make peoples when they have free time jesus :) first of all ... destroying the evidence is illegal ! ( was said before but .... )

1. It's not important what type of OS do you own and use . I`m using windows even if I`m love some linux distributions , same trick can be used by both....

All new computers have a sexy and very nice feature on bios called '' administrator password '' , activate it :) it's very very usefull .... ( it's not save but you will see why is usefull ) ... Then go and run your os , get partition magic 8 and split your HDD like you wish , and what do you need , on the net are hundreds of tutorials about this . After you have logical partitions created , install a fresh copy of your favorite OS , make the updates and such things , then get the truecrypt , it's powerful and is really paranoid encrypt the hdd . This will be your main computer , here will only chat with chicks , go to facebook profile to get new boyfriends and such protect this computer with mcafee it's best from the best anyway , If you have something to work , install vmware :) put fresh copy ( different version of OS here ) , and you have a small toy called deepfreeze install and activate soon after the OS from vmware is installed and fine tuned nicely for any type of dirty work .

This scheme is for anyone whos worried about privacy , for example is unsafe for you to log on emails and log on bank account / paypals / and such things from same computer .... brwosing on not so safe places like facebook / emails / forums and various pages ...

Anyway too log reply :) more info on request by pm/icq/msn :)

why so paranoid?? you're not gonna get busted for a few mp3s and a ripped vista lol -- you a terrorist?

Whatever you do, encrypt or physically destroy - if they're gonna bust ya, they're gonna go to every level to recover whatever they can.
At that point, forget encryption, forgot deletion of most sorts as there may be imprints left on the media.

on a timer lol.. imagine.. life gets busy with a girly or illness.. you get back to your beloved machine n 'free stuff' stash.. fooked lol

leaves the thermite option....

I use a completly different methode:

Place a server at a office near you and say its just to get your data save (fire robbery etc).
Place a repeater at the attic or somewhere outsite your office.
Every time you need a save workspace work at the outsourced server.

Bad Case:
Police come get your hardware.
Maybe (if they are good) they find your repeater.
If they are realy good they find out the conections of the repeater.
But for sure, all this needs time.
Now they have a problem, they have a search warrant for you but not for an other location but you have a call.
Prepare your lawyer that if you call him he should call somebody who can get the server and bring it away or just destory all datas.

Im not sure how it works on othere countrys, in mine its absolutly save.

HAHAHHAHAHAHA

man have u seen diehard 4?

the cops come and the hacker deletes evrything from his HD in like a button

u can go ask bruce willis for that 1337zorz h4cK t00l

but seriously cmon... if they gonna arrest u they will also arrest about 99% of the people with internet

so dw at least you will have the whole world with u in jail

Just leave the side of the case open and keep this bad boy handy. Won't wipe to zero, but I can't imagine a hard drive reacting positively to it. :)

Code:
http://www.emovendo.net/magnet/4-x-15-disc-huge.html

"Two magnets of this size will fly together with great force and can break bones. Wear safety glasses. Use heavy gloves. "

From the sales page.

Whoa. I would love to write cautionary copy like that. I think a couple of magnets like that would make a lovely Father's day gift. :-)

You know if you're concerned about one magnet not doing a thorough enough job, you could get two ...

Thermite is probably the best option, you would place it above your hard drive in your pc then have some kind of remote to do it, the mobile phone thing could work. The advantage of thermite is there would be nothing at all they can gather from the disk, any software methods would take a while to rewrite multiple times over the disk and even then data can still be recovered with time. Your best chance is to totally melt the hard drive. Plus the pc doesnt have to be on/running and its instantaneous.

The main thing with hard drives is you have no idea how much data is still left on them after they are burnt/shot/whatever, data recovery experts can still extract data from hard drives that have been thrown in rivers for days and been burnt, even the metal surface of the platter etc. The only way to guarantee 100% of your data is destroyed is to melt the harddrive hence the thermite. Any software/anything else other than melting the hard drive/flash drive will not totally destroy your data.

BTW, I think Mel Gibson used thermite in "Conspiracy Theory". Have you had an urge to buy multiple copies of "Catcher In The Rye" lately. ;-)

Imagine this: your sitting in your man-cave, reading up on the newest flaws in M$ latest opsys, and all of the sudden the door fly's open ad in come the men in black, they take your computers and all your CD/DVD/tapes, and your left with nothing.

what happens then?

well the average person would be fined and go to jail, because everyone has free music, and some "free" programs"

what i want to know is, what can i do?

i want to build a simple, multipurpose logic bomb that will take out my systems in case something like this were too happen. i want to build it like a timer, so if i dont log in for like 2 days then the bomb goes off.

any suggestions on where i can read up on this kind of thing?

all help is appreciated.

Sorry but the only safe way is the phyical destruction of your hard drive(s)

stupid convo, but perfect stoned topic that always used to come up when i was a kid. my view always was this..but now we have usb sticks..boot from 64gb stick using a usb extension lead. usb stick sits in between a layer of thermite and a layer of sand. maybe in a ceramic pot to stop fire speading. pot has trigger mechanism on the underside and maybe remote trigger. that way...no risk to anyone or anything else (unless you use a ridiculous ammount of thermite. triggered by police collecting items up when you not around and protected by you if your in bed (via remote)
