I want to start an ecommerce site and my targeted countries are Belgium and the Netherlands.

1. What are the pros for having a hosting provider in BE or NL?
2. My next project is an ecommerce site targeting USA and UK. Can I still use the BE or NL hosting or do I have to switch?

I ask these questions because when I'm searching for hosting I can sometimes choose where the server is located.

doesn't matter you can host your site anywhere and can target any country, choose choose a country according to your requirement, and better uptime and acording to your budget, My opinion is go for US or Russian hosting netherlands have sometime bad network connection I mean slow connections, but there uptime is good.

In my experience its best to have the site hosted in country you are targeting.

Also build good links on pages from that country.

the best will be to be in the country where you are targeting, the load speed will be very good. Netherlands has a lot of good providers

it is best to have the server in the main market .....
but you can also use it for the next project. the disadvantage is not so much .... and if it starts better than move to another server there.

Agree with the above. Use local hosting where you majority of audiences will be. My experience: Hosts have time that are doing back ups /maintenance etc and these times may be the most busiest time for your audiences.

So if you host website on your local providers, then you will NOT have that kind of issues.

When you host the site next to your target market, you'll gain benefit of the CDN that lead to the good speed performance!

NL is probably the best location in Europe for your needs. The latency between NL and UK is pretty low as well, so you would be fine having 1 server. The East Coast should have reasonably good speeds to NL, but you would maybe want a separate server in the states if you want to expand there.

I would recommend DigitalOcean for hosting as they have locations in Amsterdam, New York and San Francisco for $5 a pop, so you have all bases covered. PM me if you need help setting it up.

I bought my hosting in Amsterdam. If I want to expand I'll buy hosting in the USA too.

I heard from several hosting providers that the main problem will be speed. That's why you would want to have your hosting near your target.

What are your thoughts on a CDN network like Cloudflare or MaxCDN? The whole world can visit my site at the same speed then.

You're going to want to your servers as close to your market as possible. Site speed is a significant SEO ranking factor, and you'll take a hit going from Europe to the states. An IP address' geographic location is particularly relevant in local search and International SEO.
