Hey guys

My main business website got screwed back in October and disappeared from the rankings. I tried removing links, disavowing etc etc but nothing seems to have worked.

What's really annoying is that my google map/googe Places placement along with the reviews are not showing when you search for my service. Its been like that for a year.

So I am going to create a new site. Now I don't want to get rid of my old domain as its my company in the URL and its a really nice site with a lot of content that's taken me a long time to put together.

I want to leave the current website as it is, to be used for my offline marketing i.e. business cards, flyers, side of my van etc. And this new site will be built to rank high in google once again and bring in the new work. I used to be No1 for years.

I'm paying adworlds now but its not the same. Not the same volume of enquires and bloody expensive!

Now my question is. How do I get around submitting to citation site? I mean I don't want to remove my old sites details from the those citation sites. I wont be able to submit a new site with the same address. And I also want to submit my details again to Google Places. I'll need an address for this.

I have a few members of family that would be happy to allow me to use their address, they live in the same city. Is this the only way forward?

I really want to play it safe with this new site. no dodgy backlinks. Only citation site backlinks, frequent social media activity and updating my new site often with content. That's my plan anyway.

many thanks

I know a few people with exactly the same problem mate.

Many businesses have the same address these days, can you not slightly re-brand say a particular service you offer (the main one) and build a site around that using the same address ?

If you did it right i.e new phone number, new name i dont see why you cannot list the new site/business using the citations

I know a few owners that are in the same dilemma. One solution is to block all crawlers from your main site. Build your other site and promote it. Leave your brand site up and running and update frequently. Work both sites and keep your brand one locked from crawlers. Give it about 6 months to a year. Then let the crawlers back in on your main site. A period of 6 months to a year of continues building without crawlers changes the site dynamic and some of the cases allows for red flags to be dropped.

Well my new domain is quite good. Its got a keyword in it and also mentions my city. But its not a EMD so doesn't look shit and you could very well be a rebrand/company of its own right.

The citations are basically for credibility and the link juice. I don't get much work direct from citation sites (apart from yellow pages website) so I don't mind rebranding.

When people visit the site I wanted them to be greeted with my business name though! not the rebranded one. If that makes sense? My business is quite well know in my city as its been running for close to 20 years.

For example. You search for "online food shopping", and the first site you visit is "www.GreatOnlineSuperMarket.com", and its one of the Wallmart websites.

I have built "brands" in different cities over the past 4 years (UK Market not USA)

Are there any virtual offices in your city? Often they provide virtual office addresses which can be used for citations. You can even go the whole hog (I frequently do) and get separate telephone numbers, email etc etc.

You can build really nice citated businesses and rank strongly on Google Maps if you start with a blank canvas and use your SEO experience to build it up perfectly.

Essentially you will be building a separate "affiliate" company.

There is one niche I operate within where I own 3 of the 7 main competitors. It's actually a pretty cool way to lock down a niche and ensure your competitors are squeezed nice and tight!

Hope that helps.

Thanks really interesting Evilclown. I tried to thank you but it doesn't give me the option??

This might sound like a silly question but how do you block the cralwers from visiting your site? I presume I need to add something to the code?

Also, I have a Google Page for my brand website. If my red flag drops this will once again be powerful (I presume). Do I need to delete this if I am going down the blocking crawlers route?

I used to have No1 natural listings and No1 in Places. All gone over night :(

You can use a robots.txt file for that. No, don't delete, don't remove anything. Keep it the way its and continue to maintain the website like normal of course while pushing the other site.

Thanks button is at the bottom of each post.

Your robots.txt
Code:
User-Agent: *
Disallow: /

Thanks, thats exactly what I want to do! You said it better than me lol

Well yeah I presume there will be virtual office here in Edinburgh. I'll look in to that. Is it possible to use my same phone number though? I mean I already carry two mobiles and I hate call diverting (which I have to do anyway) as I'm sure I lose a % of the calls...

I would love to build several websites, rank them high in google and really fuck my competitors. The websites ranking at the moment are utter crap! Some sites look like they have been built by 5 year olds. And they are dominating!

sorry for my rant lol

A potential solution for you is to get some DID's through didlogic.com - incoming numbers in your city, that ring on whatever phone you want them to ring on (your mobile, presumably).

I just had a quick look for you; an Edinburgh number (+44131214xxxx) is 99 cents a month, plus a few cents a minute for the diverted calls.

It's also a good way to track offline advertising - you can assign a new number to a particular ad or campaign, and see the number of calls that came in on that line.
