I have a buddy who built a website, added a GP, and is now selling the leads to a local business VIA live transfer.

He had me take a look at what he had going on and with a few tweeks he went from >20 calls a month to 30. This is in a small town! He is selling the calls for $5. That's going from $100 to $150 per MONTH! I couldn't believe. Considering that I live 280 miles away I said, what the hell, let's give it a try.

    So here's my journey:

    1. Buy domain - DONE
    2. Create G Account - DONE
    3. Create GP - DONE
    4. Find address to send out postcard to - DONE
    5. Get verification postcard - Currently Waiting
    6. Build website
    7. Purchase phone number - $9/month
    8. Social Media
    9. Upload video to YT
    10. Citations
    11. CL Ads
    12. Link Building Campaign

Realistically I hope to have this done shortly. Waiting for the verification now. Once I have that I will finish everything else. I don't want to spend to much time on this if I fail on getting the verification.

Once the verification takes place then I am going to be cold calling and mailing local business to sell them the leads. Hopefully I can get ONE company to buy all of them. When I start the direct mail and cold calling I will go over that in detail. I've done quite a bit with both calling and mailing and hopefully I can really dial that in.

Total budget from this start to finish whether I sell the leads or not is $250 until I start to bring in some income. Then the monthly fee for the phone won't matter anymore.

I'd love any input from anyone.

You can get the phone for much cheaper I believe.

    Good luck!

Don't wait to build your website, start it now. The older your domain the better.

Where? The service that I use is called voiceshot.com but if there is some place cheaper I would love to hear about it.

    Google Places

Good point, I didn't even think about domain age. I just didn't want to spend the time on it before I found out if I was verified. Looks like I'll be starting on that tomorrow.

Today I am working getting City Expert in GP. I figured, why not? Also I am working on building the website as well.

    Begin RANT

I found several locations around my city where people are gaming the system and don't actually have a business there. It is funny. Once person had a candle factory on the front steps of the post office. I couldn't believe it. Other's had theirs in parking lots. Looking at it now the method of finding and abandoned building or home just looks bad to local residents that you are trying to get to buy your product or service but considering that G let's you hid your address I just look at this as a failure of the person trying to do this. Why even bother if you aren't going to hide your address?

    END RANT

On the plus side the website is coming along nice. I realistically expect to be done by Monday. With that done I just need to render some videos and upload them to YT so I can start getting indexed. Anyone use the Schema mark up before?

I have added GA and GW now. I also had a tricky time with a webform but I was able to get it sorted. Goal this week is to create a few more videos and add a few more citations.

Well, well, well. How the mighty have fallen. Apparently G's algorithm marked my GP as spam. And when they did it terminated my YT channel as well. Super great. So now I have suspended the campaign for views until I can verify my GP page. Super exciting. Pressing on with building links.

Just an update. More so to keep a record of everything.

4/21 - Gave post office address change. Told to wait 10 days for effects to take place

4/24 - Currently ranked 85-87th for targeted keywords. #1 site has NO BACKLINKS! And most of the other spots on the page are official citations.

Today I received confirmation for one of the big four citations site. YAY! Some other citations are also starting to trickle down however there are a few that I am having trouble with and a few of the MozLocal citations that are impossible to get on their directory. So it limits my top ten that I can get access to.

I created my YL page as well. Waiting till 4/28 so that I can request the verification letters.

Nothing major to report today. I have started to get some impressions in GW tools. Not that I am too worried about this. I haven't promoted the page as I am just watching paint dry at this pint till 4/28. Once that happens then I can justify doing everything else.

Well I've verified my page with GP. This is the do or die. If this doesn't work then everything else that I've done has been for nothing. Fingers crossed that the address forwarding will take place!

I am on vacation so I haven't really done much but tonight I verified with YL and also entered in all my information into YP. It says my listing is active but I can't find it in the search results. So what ever that means. Not sure if it takes a couple days or what. I am going to follow up on that. Site is still ranking about the same #82. So a little bit of a jump. Nothing major. GW shows one back link YT. But we are getting there! Yay!

I got my first phone call today and it went to VM which was a little disappointing. I called him back and haven't gotten an answer. I was more interested in how he heard about us more than anything but of course I didn't get a call back. Really disappointing. But it's a start!!! Reminded me that I have an active website and citations that I need to be prepared for the calls.

You can almost certainly sell these leads for more the $5, I am doing something similar forwarding live leads to contractors. I sent you my skype if you want to talk.

At this point this is more of a proof of concept and perfecting the process. I'll obviously attempt to sell the leads for as much as possible.
