Local SEO is easy, right?

Pretty much this is a daunting truth, especially if the site is for a professional like a doctor or lawyer in a larger population city. Not only are you fighting people w/ the established web presence, but also trying to get up ahead of the abouts, yellow pages sites, etc. In those cases it's way more beneficial to try to target specific services that the site/client will provide, and not just something like "Doctor New York" or "Atlanta Attorney".

This is right on. I do this with attorneys and it works well. Be specific. You'll often times find that the search volume is better for particular niches too when it comes to doctors/dentists/lawyers and other businesses.

Don't get too hung up just on lawyers and doctors. There are TONS of other businesses out there to grab (albeit for a lower dollar amount - but the competition is usually nonexistent in most towns). Also, many businesses will already be at the top for their category (or top 3), but you can still sell them on the idea of your services so that they have a SECOND listing and double up their chances of capturing business...

Good luck!

I do this all the time! Its even better if you rank your site over theirs and sell them "exclusive" adspace ;)

It is easy then the global one but if the competition is also there in local then it will become difficult.

Very interesting discussion. Posting to subscribe. I recently started to work for local company that needs to rank for some medium difficulty keywords. I don't know why some people are so aggressive and annoyed about people sharing their knowledge to each other.

I use only Scrapebox and Senuke X. They are awesome tools. (I never use to blast main site ) thinking to add AMR or BMD to my list.

I'll post the results of my work in the future.

Just remember quality over quantity... 1 high quality unqiue blog post on a high authority high PR domain will be much more value than 10 spun web2.0s :) Sometimes more "organic" or "manual" work will work better than automation ;)

I agree. I try to do both and balance backlinks between those two.

Actual high PageRank links, pages with PageRank, not pages with PRN/A or PR0 from a high PR domain.

However you can achieve this, paid, begging, services on BHW, etc. When you really begin to break down the top rankings for competitive keywords on Google, you'll begin to notice a large trend of artificial high PR backlinks.

Yes but these people actually have high PR blog networks... at least for some of the most competitive terms I've looked into.

(some of these networks are outrageously good... basically being an "instant" give PR6 to your new site button to press)

Keywords are important...avoid general keywords like "dentist new york". Believe me, everyone who read Local White Hat SEO ranked for that KW. Rank for a longer tail KWs, it's much easier...But also check the amount of searches a KW gets before you rank for it. Ranking for a KW that barely receives searches is not profitable.
