Local SEO - How to Take a Client to the Next Level

I have one client that is my bread and butter for my income locally. He is a plumber. He ranks on about the 2nd or 3rd page for most of his main keywords. His website is only 3 monthes old and we are proud of his brand and overall online image which I designed. I also cleaned his listings etc. I am a graphic designer by trade so SEO, link building and all of this stuff that makes websites get a crazy amount of traffic - I really don't understand. Futhuremore, I dont want to f*uck up his site or his brand.

What should I do, purchase a package from someone on here? Create the licks from the lists I see on BHW? I am quite scare to proceed but I know that it will help his business and getting the online traffic that will make him #1 on google.

Anyhow I hope to hear from you all. This site scares me a little since we are not face-to-face but I am will to take a chance to get him to the level he and his business deserves. Thank you for reading and replying.

There are lots of things you can do. The first thing I'd recommend is going through the biggest online directories (Google My Biz, Yelp, Bing Places, etc.) and ensuring the business is listed on them and that the NAP (name, address, phone number) matches & is accurate across the board - and ensuring they have keyword rich descriptions, link to the website, the listings are verified etc. when possible. Not sure how many listings you've added/cleaned so far, but you may be able to find more opportunities with a tool such as whitespark.

Depending on competitiveness that may be enough to nudge them up to first page, though you'll probably need to supplement with some on-page optimization, link building and maybe some blog content.

avoid buying very cheap links.

I am not a plumber, as I could never herd anyone's else turds. I am an electrician. So I have a grasp on contracting websites. PLUMBERSEO has plenty of free content to borrow and steal. Reverse engineer their sample sites. READ everything there since they start a 2k a month to do a plumbers site.

I think you should create a Google Business listing for your client - that Google Business page would require you to verify your business address by requesting a verification code that would be sent to the business' registered address. Once you verify the Google Business page - magic will happen!
The Google Business page would automatically appear when a specific keyword is searched, and they will also consider the IP used to search the keyword, in which Google will provide relevant search results based on the IP location - which would be superior in local SEO ranking.
And with the address verified, the plumber's business would also automatically appear on Google Maps, and when a specific keyword is searched, it will show the plumber's business location, as well as address, contact info, etc.

I would try getting his business/ website listed on the classified site in your location, go find relevant websites with good rank in that niche from your location, create social accounts for his business (G+, Fb, twitter, Instagram, etc.), send social signals to his website links 1000 per day to his homepage and 200 per day to other pages (Services, Contact, About, main pages).

This should bring you in the first page after a few weeks, if you find only relevant and powerfull sites to place his link (anchor text link, guest posts or sponsored reviews).

Buying cheap and a lot of links will help only for a short period of time, that if you buy something that is good.
