Our goal is to rank in the local pack for six US metros with a single, fully-remote service business. After the first 6, we are looking to aggressively expand.
For a business like this, is the safest play to run one Service-Area Business profile that hides the address and lists all metros, or is there a sturdier workaround you’ve used (e.g., satellite suites, multiple SABs, other tactics)? Any pitfalls we should watch for?

Or, am I totally off here and there is a totally different way to tackle local SEO for these cities?

Don’t go for SAB they never rank.
Understood. Virtual suites are risky too, so what does work for a multi-city operator without staffed offices—any proven workaround you’d recommend (e.g., partnerships, practitioner listings, or another angle)?

Go with your website and target only Local SEO and this is better way even to spend on Local service ads trust me
Can a strong city-hub content strategy alone punch into the local pack or map carousel without a GBP at all? Any must-do tactics (citations, entity linking, programmatic pages) you’d double-down on to win those rankings

If you're trying to rank in six different US metro areas with a fully-remote business, the safest play isn’t to stack all targets into one SAB listing. It’s much more effective to build separate, localized GBP profiles, each with its own identity, clean browser fingerprint, and dedicated mobile proxy tied to that specific metro.
Using satellite offices or virtual addresses can work, but only if paired with proper technical isolation. Reusing the same IP ranges, user agents, or location patterns is a fast track to suspension.
What works long-term is full separation, browser profile, billing info, IP (mobile is ideal), and consistent activity. This way, each listing looks like an authentic local operation rather than part of a remote SEO cluster.

Getting approval for multiple location Google Business Profiles (GBPs) is risky. If Google finds out that a location doesn’t have a legitimate physical presence, the chances of suspension are high sometimes even the main profile can be affected. You’d need some luck and solid verification to get through that process safely.

A better approach is to create dedicated local landing pages for each target metro and use separate phone numbers to localize the experience instead of trying to set up multiple GBP profiles.

After that, you can promote each location with
  • Fake or placeholder addresses (only if absolutely necessary)
  • Google Ads (geo-targeted)
  • Local citations
  • Press releases on local news/media outlets
  • Guest posts or coverage on local blogs
  • Collaborations with local influencers
This method is more stable and avoids triggering Google’s spam filters while still giving you strong local visibility.

You know nothing about GMB. Don’t listen to him.
Just use a good and reliable verification service of gmb. A Good verificator like me will get you a verified GMB in the city center of the city. Then ranking it will be easy.
Thanks for weighing in. From what we’re seeing there are only two solid, penalty-proof routes:

• Real local addresses: sub-lease a small room in each city, put up signage, verify on-site. Costs more up-front but ranks fastest.

• One national service-area profile: hide the address, cover all hubs, and lean on strong city pages + ads/press. Cheaper, but slower in the map pack.

Virtual mailboxes or paid “verification” tricks get nuked sooner or later, so those aren’t on the table.

Unless there’s a proven third option we’ve missed..

Thats all bullshit. Really you know nothing about GBP. Don’t listen to him.

I did the same thing for a remote cleaning service brand, using multiple SABs using verified set addresses. As long as each SAB had its own NAP/citation and light GMB activity, it was fine. But the downside was no ranking.

Never ever use SAB they don’t rank. Just verify one with a fake adress in a random building.

If you really know about the GMB/GBP, then you should help the OP instead of selling yourself outside of the marketplace.

If the OP were looking to buy the GMB, then they would probably posted it on the HAF/WTB section.

Each has its advantages and disadvantages, depending on the purpose of use. I absolutely do not reject it.
What is the advantage of SAB if it doesnt rank you will have no calls.
Im in gmb to have leads if I want to have leads I have to be in the map pack.
For very compétitive nich you will never rank with a SAB. You need a fake location in the city center. Google is doing geo-racism. It Will always rank better a gmb in the center.

Have you ever done black hat? There are many features that do not need to be rated, it is easy to use and easy to register

You cant find someone more black than me lol. I mean verifying SAB is more or less the same for me. I just don’t see the point to rank something that will not rank.

Just avoid fake addresses it's too risky these days.
