Local SEO clients - Who do you target?

It really depends on your niche. I would target any kind of businesses that would be interested who are similar to your niche. Even going to local businesses near you and asking them is a good idea.

Another question, how do you guys go about making first contact?

One of you said referrals and another said door-to-door.

Are there any other ways you have found to be useful?

Going through classified sites like (justdial.com, sulekha.com for Indian market) will help you track possible service buyers

RE Agents, Machinery Suppliers, Export and Import Services, Medical

I am in contact with website developers and have a business tie-up with them. That is a win-win-win for all the three parties.

Here's a list that I've created of customers that make an average of a $1,000 or more per invoice.

View attachment 62979

These customers can easily afford: $4,995.95 Setup, $2,249.95 Monthly + Bonus + Trade

Each customer will pay a different price if you know sales.

Simply ask the prospect what their highest valued sales man gets paid.
That's how much they are willing to pay you for converting results.
Use a call tracking number and enjoy the passive income.

Very nice list, thanks a lot for sharing this. Is this list part of any training , or its your personal list.

I run a small Civil Engineering business. Using that you could target every small engineering company. I would be up for paying for SEO if someone was to ever present me something that was valuable. I get cold called all the time and am willing to listen to a point. I don't like a hard sell. I also want to hear something that makes sense. Spending $500/month for random nonsense is not what I would call valuable.

I don't even bother to open junk mail, so cold calling is good. I get a ton of spam emails for garbage SEO and that's just annoying. So that is now treated like physical junk mail.

Even here I see links to SEO sites and they don't load fast. Would someone think that going to a slow site is a positive or negative?

If you want a small business's money, remember the person who built it worked very hard to keep that going. So you have to work even harder to get their business. An average contract to me is $4000, but can easily be in the $20k range. Target companies that take on jobs at a time. I would gladly spend $10k to get an extra $20k job for the year. To go further with this thought, larger contracts could be worth a million for a slightly larger company. And I do know of those that have early 90's websites.

i think the clients should come to you, as you're an expert in local seo, if you are a true expert, the customers will find you

Depends on your business strategy.

Not sure, without SOME kind of marketing, how prospects get to know you are the expert...maybe, with an established base, referrals are how one grows a business with this approach.

I have worked on all the niches, but the currently I prefer to target niches like dentistry, real estate, photography etc.

How do you guys work it if, for example you target 5 dentists in one city and sell a package to all 5 promising top rankings... Your competeing with yourself and cannot give assurance of top ranking to the other 4?

Like to hear their answers too.

Seems to me that would be a "good" problem to have, but highly unlikely to get 100% response rate, let alone conversion rate.

Some options:

1) Refuse some business - depending on how close together in time they sign up, it might be fiirst come first serve, or you pick the best. Reason to reject is that you cannot live up to your promise with too many in the same field. Leaves impression of integrity, and the door open if one of the others drop.

2) Take them all on - work your best for the best clients. Find a reason to drop the others later, or let them drop on their own. Either way, probably not good for reputation. Or, maybe only promise page 1 in G - not top position in rankings (AFAIK, that is over promising anyway). Best clients = those who pay on time, and buy into extended services.
