Ugh. I am not challenging the verdict. I do want to yet again clear up my own experience. This is important as it's very possible and even likely others will have this experience.

  • You got reports and waited an unreasonable amount of time to look them over.
I did check the reports. I don't have much time. I did bring up the lack of comments on the links I checked and took him on his word when he excused it away. I didn't fully check all the links because it was too time consuming. When it became a pressing issue I did comprehensively check them and yeah, didn't like what I saw. There's literally nothing there. I didn't find ONE comment.

Even without those reports, the results or rather lack thereof spoke for itself. I saw there was an increasing number of "interested" on the event and believed it. Under further scrutiny I concluded those were fake accounts and that threw the legitimacy of his claims even further in doubt.

But the final straw was when he wouldn't reply to my messages after being very quick to communicate before hand. The red flags were all there which is why I brought it to the SL in the first place.

  • You attempted to change the actual deal and say he was getting paid on performance and not on the posts
I shouldn't have said that. No doubt. I was stunned by his sudden change of attitude and tone. But still a wrong approach. I don't consider myself having tried to actually change the deal but whatever.

At the time I thought he was just underperforming and didn't want to be too legalese in my response. I was hoping instead of zero-sum discourse we could come to some arrangement for the future. Once I saw there was a good chance he didn't perform at all, well, you saw the consequence.

That cost you 400.00.

But I mean even without those reports, the results or rather lack thereof spoke for themselves.

And a required POD would have have eliminated any guess work on anyone's end. Business 101.

I don't consider myself having tried to actually change the deal.

But you did try to change the deal.

Next time get your ducks in a row; you're not happy with some of the business transactions here because you are not controlling the situation. I know what you do for work and I know it can be a pain in the backside at times. Don't go spending your hard earned money without doing proper due diligence.

Nobody wants to see a thread here in this section with your name on it no matter who is right or wrong. It's not a pleasant experience.

A few things to consider:
  • Do not pay upfront unless the person has a history here.
  • Be sure to lay out the terms and conditions as clearly as possible.
  • Tell the person you are hiring what you want for proof of the work done.
  • Inspect that proof in a timely manner.
  • Look in the marketplace to see if there is a service that will accommodate you before posting in the Hire a Freelancer section. Those sellers are vetted hard and pay for the privilege to offer their products and services.
You've made some errors in judgement relative to this transaction as did @void957. Neither one of you come out smelling like a rose.

Don't do that next time; smell like a rose instead.

One other thing; take the advice that @alwaysinvisible shared above.

I think you'll be in a better place should you do that.

Looks like LitCircle has still not given up on this as I received an email today form Paypal where he got his bank to reverse the original $100 payment (one of the payments) with the excuse that he did not authorize the payment. I believe he will do the exact same thing with the other 2 payments he made to me, totalling $400.

@litcircle is banned for a number of reasons; this being one of them.

I hope you can win that dispute @void957.
