Link Building in 2013, Post Penguin.

I, too am having some trouble figuring out the backlink business after the updates. I understand you need a good variety of backlinks , with quality over quality. I also know that content is king. Now lets just say I have all the best content on the world on my site that I have put hours into..where do you get the ball rolling?

I am having a lot of trouble just simply getting that initial traffic in. What I am doing now is going for low competition low volume keywords just to start getting a flow but I digress, my real question is; do SEO services and backlink packages still work or are they a good investment? I know it depends but I mean in general, any insight is appreciated for it would allow me to punch above my weight on better keywords and focus on content.

Yes, I am a noob to IM (was lightly successful back in 2009 with clickbank and adwords and am coming back with a vengeance) and this is my first post here on BHW :)

In what context are you guys using the term 'Web 2.0'. You keep saying it as if it were an action, like backlinking, but last time I was into internet marketing Web 2.0 was simply a description of a new breed of website styles. How do you put "1000 web 2.0 package" on a website. Could somebody explain please?

Well, Web 2.0 in this case means certain blogging platforms or simply web sites or blogs that allow you to sign up and post your content for free and sometimes for a fee. Here are some well known Web 2.0 sites that you would find in almost all "packages" - Tumblr.com, Blogger.com, Wordpress.com, Squidoo.com, Weebly.com etc.

That's Web 2.0 in a nutshell when you are talking about link building. Hope that helps.

social bookmarking is an effective way to get quality backlinks at this point of time...

Just finished analyizng a tumbler page that ranks on page one on Google for a very competitive KW - looks like work done by a SEO agency, but I took the time to spider the backlinks (found about 900 of them) and what do you know, almost all of them "bad links."

It looks like they mixed blog posts (span content, free platforms) with forum profile links and blog comments, and managed to get to page 1. How long will they stay there? No idea, but I will keep my eye on them ;)

given that this is the whitehat seo forum, the answer is "none of the above" ...
